Manchester United are preparing a £40m bid to sign goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez from Aston Villa. |
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, MU contacted Villa and Martinez's representatives again over the weekend. The 32-year-old goalkeeper - a 2022 World Cup winner - has been a pillar in Villa's revival under Unai Emery, but the club is under pressure from the Financial and Sustainability Regulation (PSR) and may be forced to sell if a reasonable price is received.
Meanwhile, negotiations with Lammens have yet to be concluded. United want a backup plan with less than 48 hours to go before the market closes. Coach Ruben Amorim's patience with Andre Onana is running out, and Altay Bayindir - despite starting all three Premier League games this season - has yet to convince.
Onana, who made 50 appearances last season, has started just one game this season and was disappointing in the shock defeat to Grimsby in the Carabao Cup.
On the other hand, Aston Villa are also considering their final move. According to the Daily Mail , the Birmingham team wants to recruit Lucas Paqueta from West Ham. The 28-year-old midfielder is ready to leave to find a place in the European Cup, opening up a deal that promises to create a dramatic late transfer wave.
