At the World Food Photography Awards 2025, the work "Banh Hoi" by Dr. Dang Hoai Anh won first prize in the Champagne Taittinger Food for Celebration category.
Spent over an hour creating the photo
"Banh Hoi" was taken during a trip to Phan Thiet with his family on the occasion of April 30. For more than an hour at noon, he patiently recorded the moment a shirtless man prepared a traditional dish that often appears on holidays, death anniversaries, and weddings in many regions of Vietnam.

The photo belongs to the series "Sunshine and Smoke" - a work he devoted a lot of effort to creating in memory of his grandmother who passed away nearly a year ago, capturing the moments of sunlight shining through the fragile, hazy smoke.
Behind the lens, photographer Hoai Anh is also an ENT doctor. He is currently working at Thu Duc City Hospital (HCMC). Sharing about his passion for art, he said that 8 years ago, when he was still an emergency medicine doctor, Dr. Dang Hoai Anh started taking up photography to relax after stressful working hours.

Choose to hunt for photos instead of resting
At first, he took pictures of Da Lat with his phone. Then, seeing that the pictures were interesting, he gradually upgraded his device to a camera, learned more skills on his own and improved through the times he traveled alone to take pictures.
To date, there have been about 9 photo collections completed. Each photo collection represents an idea he has contemplated from life. On holidays or days off from the hospital, instead of choosing to rest, Dr. Hoai Anh will start his photography journey. Most of the trips he chooses to go alone by motorbike.

"Photography is an anchor for me to balance my life, helping me stop thinking. Thanks to that, I no longer struggle and every decision in my medical work becomes a routine with the sole goal of doing the best for the patient," Dr. Hoai Anh shared.
