Meta talks about fake Facebook pages that still have blue ticks

(NLDO) - Users are confused about the blue tick. This is a symbol confirming that the account is genuine and has been verified. Not every fanpage with a blue tick is reputable.

On August 7, in Ho Chi Minh City, Meta (Facebook's parent company) organized the Business Messaging Summit 2025 event with the theme "Maximizing profits through conversations".

Mr. Khoi Le, Meta's country director in Vietnam, said that consumers in Vietnam are spending an average of 398 USD during the 2025 shopping season, 13% higher than the 2024 level of 352 USD.

In addition, shopping trends are changing dramatically as 68% of Vietnamese consumers are looking for quick information and spend no more than 1 hour learning about products.

The rate of online shopping and early hunting for deals during seasonal promotions also increased to 28%, compared to 23% last year.

Notably, 87% of seasonal consumers in Vietnam use Meta messaging apps during the holidays, and 74% of online adults say they want to contact businesses via text.

According to records, Facebook is currently considered the main channel for businesses to reach and take care of customers. However, besides the opportunities, this platform is also facing some problems.

Among them is the situation of fake fanpages of businesses and sellers but are given blue ticks to carry out fraudulent acts.

Mr. Khoi Le, Country Director of Meta in Vietnam, answers questions to the press

Responding to a question from a reporter from Nguoi Lao Dong Newspaper about fake fanpages still being given blue ticks, Mr. Khoi Le emphasized that the blue tick is a symbol of confirming the account owner, has been verified, not that having a blue tick means the fanpage is reputable. Currently, the Vietnamese market is confused about this.

Meta said it has received feedback from many parties and recommends that users and businesses take advantage of the support tools available on Facebook to handle issues related to fraud and counterfeiting. In addition, the platform has also opened a separate channel for the Vietnamese community on Facebook to receive feedback and adjust policies accordingly.

“Temporarily, users and businesses should use available tools on Facebook to handle the problems they are facing, which will be more effective,” said Mr. Khoi Le.

According to Meta statistics, in the first half of 2025, Facebook handled about 500,000 accounts that engaged in spam (sending junk content) or fake interactions. The platform also removed about 10 million accounts impersonating major content producers.
