This is an initiative initiated by the Green Economy Institute, bringing together the first members from 20 hospitals, research institutes, universities, and large enterprises in Vietnam.

The network aims to connect research resources, training, technology transfer, production and commercialization of biotechnology products and typical research works of Cuba as well as develop indigenous resources of Vietnam.

Thereby, not only opening a new direction for Vietnam's biotechnology industry, but also creating a foundation to bring Cuba's advanced scientific achievements into practical service of medical development, agriculture and people's lives.

Representatives of the Cuban Intergovernmental Commission delegation highly appreciated this initiative and affirmed that the initiative will concretize high-level agreements on biotechnology cooperation, making good use of Cuba's strengths and Vietnam's potential in this field.

Mr. Rogelio Polanco Fuentes, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Cuba to Vietnam, shared that Vietnam and Cuba have recently paid attention to biotechnology cooperation, considering this a potential field to concretize the good bilateral cooperation relationship. In particular, Cuba has advanced technologies from a long tradition of development, while Vietnam has the conditions to accelerate and widely apply these technologies.

Ms. Duong Thi Bich Diep, Director of the Green Economy Institute, also said that the Green Economy Institute initiated the Vietnam - Cuba Biotechnology Network to create an official forum, connecting research institutes, businesses, universities and hospitals of the two countries for effective and sustainable cooperation.

Among the eight recommendations, the top priority is to establish a joint venture with Cuba’s Labiofam Group in Vietnam. This joint venture will be the legal and financial foundation for implementing three key projects: a science urban area and an agricultural biotechnology park in Lam Dong; an international healthcare complex in Dong Nai; and an e-commerce platform for biotechnology products.

This will be a practical step to realize bilateral cooperation, bringing Cuban biotechnology to serve public health and sustainable agricultural development in Vietnam.

Previously, at the Vietnam - Cuba Biomedical Cooperation Conference organized by the Green Economy Institute in coordination with the Lam Dong Provincial People's Committee, the Green Economy Institute signed a framework cooperation agreement with the LabioFAM Group and the CIGB Biotechnology Center of Cuba to coordinate research, development and production of biological products in agriculture and natural medicine.

Within the framework of the ceremony, as a symbol of special friendship, the Green Economic Institute presented the Cuban side with a souvenir of the Dai Viet Dragon. This is not only a sophisticated work of art but also a crystallized symbol of the history, culture and national spirit of Vietnam.

In addition, representatives of Vietnamese enterprises participating in the Vietnam-Cuba Biotechnology Network also symbolically presented 400 tons of rice to support the Cuban people. This is the heart of Vietnamese enterprises to share food difficulties with Cuba.

The launching ceremony of the Vietnam – Cuba Biotechnology Network is expected to open a new chapter of cooperation in the field of biotechnology, contributing to bringing scientific achievements to practically serve socio-economic development and public health care in both Vietnam and Cuba, while further tightening the friendship between the two brotherly nations.
