The program facilitates people to monitor their health, receive timely diagnosis and access early prevention methods.
“If it weren’t for Long Chau, I wouldn’t have known I had chronic kidney disease,” many people shared after participating in the free health screening program implemented by the Long Chau pharmacy system since June. This is a practical community activity that helps detect chronic kidney disease early - a disease that is increasingly common and tends to get younger.
Long Chau accompanies strategic partners and local medical centers to screen people for chronic kidney disease, diabetes and hypertension early.
According to the Ministry of Health , chronic kidney disease (CKD) is considered a “silent killer” because it progresses silently and has few symptoms in the early stages. It is predicted that without timely intervention, CKD could become the fifth leading cause of death globally by 2040.
With the spirit of proactive health care, Long Chau cooperates with local medical centers and German pharmaceutical companies to deploy a series of free early screening for chronic kidney disease in many provinces and cities. People are tested for urinary protein using modern rapid testing equipment - a method that helps detect the risk of kidney disease early. Cases with signs will be consulted by doctors and guided to do specialized tests to comprehensively assess kidney function.
Ms. LT Tam, 76 years old, living in Phu Nhuan, Ho Chi Minh City, shared: “I am old, I have all kinds of diseases, from hepatitis B to stage 2 and stage 3 kidney failure, listening to the doctor makes me worried. Today, when I heard that Long Chau organizes a health check-up program for the elderly, I am very happy, at least I have a place to get checked again, ask questions, and feel a little more secure.
The doctor examined me very carefully and explained clearly. I am old and my children live far away, so my husband and I take care of each other, so I feel very warm when we are cared for like this. I just hope there are more programs like this, so that elderly people like me have the opportunity to detect diseases early and receive guidance on how to take care of their health properly. If I had not participated in this screening program, I would have missed the opportunity to detect chronic kidney disease early.”
Many people came very early for health check-ups.
Medical experts, doctors advise and listen to people's opinions.
As a retired cadre, Ms. TTLThu is currently the breadwinner of the family. “My children work all day, I take care of the house and the grandchildren. My children say: ‘If something happens to you, we don’t know what to do,’” she said.
“As I get older, my body starts to speak up, and the doctor also advises me to take care of my health. However, I am busy with my family, so I don’t pay much attention. On this occasion, the pharmacy has a program to screen for chronic kidney disease and measure my blood pressure. I really appreciate it. The children take care of me wholeheartedly, from asking questions to giving enthusiastic advice. I don’t know how to express my gratitude. Thanks to Long Chau, I discovered chronic kidney disease early, preventing kidney failure before there were any symptoms,” Ms. Thu said.
In addition to practical projects, Long Chau also promotes activities to raise community awareness. Early detection and timely treatment not only improve the quality of life but also reduce the physical and mental burden on patients, their families and society.
Mr. LV Keo, 1962, after measuring blood pressure, blood sugar, urine and receiving careful advice from a doctor, discovered that his blood sugar was a bit high, affecting his health.
“Every elderly person will get sick, more or less. But not everyone can afford to go to the hospital, especially those who are in difficult circumstances, the elderly who do not have the means. Thanks to free screening sessions like this, we have the opportunity to detect diseases early, to know how to take care of ourselves. I hope there will be more programs like this, so that the elderly will be properly cared for, live healthier, more proactively and have less burden for their children and for society,” Mr. Keo expressed.
As a young person who brought his parents for screening, Mr. Linh shared: “I feel that this program of Long Chau is very humane. Many elderly people were touched and appreciated when they received free health screening. Some people were tested for chronic kidney disease, blood sugar, blood pressure, etc. for the first time, some people learned about their illness thanks to this screening. Programs like this not only help the elderly detect diseases early, but also give them the feeling of being listened to and cared for. For many people, this is not just a medical examination but a very precious act of humanity.”
Through meaningful community projects and a steadfast spirit with the mission “For a healthy Vietnam”, Long Chau helps patients proactively prevent and detect diseases early, not missing the golden period of treatment. Thereby, joining hands to reduce pressure on the upper-level healthcare system and spread the spirit of sustainable healthcare to every family.
