This place has become a famous tourist destination and is now getting more attention because of the rural tourism trend that is attracting visitors...

“I am the 7th generation to own this ancient house. The ancient house was built during the time of my ancestors. Many generations of the family have together preserved, protected and considered this a priceless “souvenir”, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Hoan, 75 years old, said about the ancient house that is nearly 200 years old that he owns in Tien Canh commune, Tien Phuoc district ( Quang Nam ). According to Mr. Hoan, the ancient house is made of jackfruit wood, it took 12 years of work to complete, sophisticated down to the smallest detail. The house floor is made from soil from termite nests so it is very sturdy and durable over time. When his father (Mr. Nguyen Huynh Anh) was still alive, the Ngo Dinh Diem government sent someone to ask to buy this house, and even offered to exchange the house for a villa in Saigon, but his father did not agree. Thanks to that, Loc Yen now still preserves an ancient house with high value and unique architecture.

“This village used to have hundreds of ancient houses. But after the war, bombs destroyed everything, now only about 8 houses remain intact as when they were first built. Currently, the ancient houses in Loc Yen ancient village are becoming a favorite tourist attraction,” Mr. Hoan shared.

Mr. Hoan said that according to the elders, the ancient village of Loc Yen was formed in association with the land reclamation and village establishment in the 15th-16th century. The village has a total area of 279 hectares, with nearly 200 households living. During the Tay Son period (1771 - 1802), Mr. Nguyen Cong Tuyet (from Tam Ky) brought his family and some villagers here to reclaim land and establish a village and named it Loc An village, later called Loc Yen. Up to now, after 7 generations, Loc Yen village has many clans living together in harmony.

Ancient village "transforms"

In recent years, many families in Loc Yen have focused on improving their gardens to be green - clean - beautiful, combined with developing community tourism, joining hands with the government to promote tourism development. To meet the accommodation needs of tourists, many families have built homestay models from their own houses and gardens. Each year, this model helps people earn hundreds of millions of VND.

Mr. Nguyen Dinh Suu (in Loc Yen village) said that since the project to develop garden economy , farm economy, and eco-tourism in Tien Phuoc district was launched, his family has invested in renovating the garden house. “After visiting the ancient house, tourists often stop by the garden house to take pictures, buy agricultural products and fruits to bring home as gifts. I think that doing community tourism not only promotes the strength of garden economy, increases income, but also creates jobs for idle workers in the locality. Tourists come to Loc Yen ancient village first to breathe in the fresh air, then to experience the values that only this ancient village has,” said Mr. Suu.

Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Duong, Vice Chairman of Tien Canh Commune People's Committee, said that Loc Yen ancient village is really "transforming". In recent years, the number of domestic and foreign tourists visiting Loc Yen ancient village in particular and Tien Phuoc district in general has increased significantly, estimated at nearly hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. In particular, responding to the National Tourism Year 2022 program, Tien Phuoc district has soon planned to develop tourism in the area, preparing to organize Loc Yen village festival, mangosteen festival, tourism products serving tourists at ancient houses...

Mossy stone alley

According to Mr. Duong, in the past, people only knew how to garden, but since the community tourism development project was launched, they have adapted better to "doing tourism". People are more active, proactively communicating with guests, trading agricultural products, bringing in high income. "Coming to Loc Yen village, tourists have the opportunity to learn about local cultural values, participate in festival activities, visit and explore ancient houses, stone alleys and enjoy the culinary specialties of Tien Phuoc countryside... The locality's viewpoint is to develop tourism associated with preserving relics, promoting the heritage values that Loc Yen ancient village possesses", said Mr. Duong.

Preserving priceless relics

Loc Yen ancient village (Tien Canh commune, Tien Phuoc district) is located more than 40 km southwest of Tam Ky provincial capital. In September 2019, Loc Yen ancient village was recognized as a national monument and is one of the four most beautiful ancient villages in Vietnam. Loc Yen ancient village is affectionately called "Fairyland" by the locals because it owns ancient houses, mossy stone alleys and converges the beauty and peace as if in a fairyland. The highlight of the village is the harmonious combination of mossy stone alleys "hidden" under tall green areca trees, fruit gardens, rice fields and ancient houses with sophisticated architecture. The rows of tea trees embrace the deep, winding stone paths leading to the ancient houses, creating a peaceful, rustic feeling. This combination has created a unique, characteristic feature of Loc Yen ancient village. In addition, the skillful and delicate arrangement of the ancient houses makes the village look like a watercolor painting.

The most important value of this village is the preservation of 8 ancient houses, aged from 150 to 200 years. These ancient houses still have intact stone walls, 3 rooms, 2 wings, and yin-yang tiled roofs in the style of a traditional house. All of them retain their cultural and historical values despite experiencing many bombs and stray bullets during the war. The owners are still cherishing the heritage left by their ancestors, such as the mysterious rotating table, the unique altar cabinet with pearl carvings... helping to create a quiet, pristine Loc Yen, touching the emotions of visitors from all over.
