AC Milan made a serious mistake in handling the Victor Boniface deal, revealing a lack of professionalism by making public the medical testing process despite knowing the risks from the beginning. |
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AC Milan decided to cancel the loan deal for Boniface with a buyout clause at the last minute, after the player failed a medical. However, Milan made Bayer Leverkusen's board unhappy by making the player's injury history and health status public.
Typically, when faced with players with a history of injuries like Boniface, most teams will conduct secret medical tests before making a final decision. Milan even prepared to unveil the Nigerian striker, revealing his shirt number and holding a ceremony for the star, even though he had not yet completed his medical.
Sky Italia said the move damaged the image of both Bayer Leverkusen and AC Milan, creating a "farce in the eyes of the public". Boniface, 24, was negotiated by AC Milan on loan from Bayer Leverkusen with an option to buy for 30 million euros.
However, after the medical, Milan canceled the deal when they learned that Boniface was suffering from a knee injury. Last season, Boniface scored 11 goals for Leverkusen. In the transfer market at the beginning of the year, this striker almost joined Al Nassr. However, the deal fell through at the last minute, when the Saudi Arabian club changed direction to recruit Jhon Duran from Aston Villa.
