The flag-raising ceremony to celebrate the 58th anniversary of ASEAN's founding and the 30th anniversary of Vietnam's accession to the Association took place solemnly at Ben Bach Dang Park, Ho Chi Minh City. |
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong, Member of the Standing Committee, Head of the Propaganda and Mass Mobilization Department of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Mr. Firdauz Othman - Consul General of Malaysia in Ho Chi Minh City, along with Consuls General and Consuls of ASEAN countries in the City.

Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong affirmed that ASEAN has overcome nearly six decades of development from division to solidarity, from poverty to dynamic development. In that journey, Vietnam has always been an active and responsible member and accompanied ASEAN towards a cohesive, self-reliant, inclusive and sustainable community. At the same time, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong also emphasized the pioneering and dynamic role of Ho Chi Minh City in strengthening local-level cooperation with ASEAN countries, especially in the fields of economy , education, youth exchange and people-to-people diplomacy. The city currently maintains cooperative relations with 12 ASEAN localities and organizes many regional connectivity activities such as the Ho Chi Minh City Economic Forum, the International Tourism Fair, the Green Summer Campaign and programs for Lao and Cambodian students.

Representing the ASEAN Consulate General delegation in the City, Malaysian Consul General Firdauz Othman highly appreciated ASEAN's 58-year development journey, from a young organization to one of the fifth largest economies in the world, with a population of more than 660 million people.

As ASEAN Chair 2025, Malaysia is committed to fostering an ASEAN Community that is “inclusive, connected and future-ready”, and affirmed the importance of active participation from localities such as Ho Chi Minh City in this process. He also expressed his desire to continue to strengthen cooperation between Malaysia, ASEAN and Ho Chi Minh City – a dynamic, innovative and influential city in the region.

The flag-raising ceremony ended in a solemn, friendly and united atmosphere – a symbol of the aspiration to join hands in building an increasingly strong, cohesive and unique ASEAN Community.
