Clip of special opening ceremony at the school devastated after storm number 5. On the morning of September 5, joining the school opening atmosphere of millions of students across the country, Son Loc Secondary School (Xuan Loc Commune, Ha Tinh Province) held its opening ceremony for the new school year. Unlike other schools, this place has just experienced storm No. 5, which caused heavy damage. The storm that occurred at the end of August knocked down trees, blew off roofs and collapsed two rows of houses with a total of 13 classrooms. All teaching equipment such as televisions, electric fans, projection screens and 1,560 books in the library were submerged in water. The estimated damage caused by storm No. 5 at Son Loc Secondary School was about 1 billion VND - a large sum for a school in a rural area.
In the schoolyard, the roofs of the buildings were blown off by the storm, leaving rubble and dust strewn about. The classrooms still smelled of damp books soaked in the rain after the storm, along with collapsed walls.
“When the storm passed, looking at the devastated scene of the school, all teachers were confused and worried that they would not be able to fix it in time for the opening day. However, with the encouragement and support of many forces, the school made efforts to clean up. 3 classrooms were temporarily re-roofed to remove teaching equipment and library books. In addition, the school temporarily took over the English room, the art room and some functional rooms to ensure enough 14 main classrooms. No matter how difficult it is, we must let the students have a complete opening day,” said Mr. Hoang The Anh - Principal of Son Loc Secondary School.
Students lined up neatly, in pristine white shirts, red scarves on their shoulders, standing next to rows of dilapidated houses. The opening bell rang, signaling the start of a new school year.
In the days before the opening ceremony, teachers, parents, youth union members, soldiers and local police were busy cleaning up, repairing roofs, arranging tables and chairs, drying books and stretching safety ropes around the roofless buildings, along with warning signs to ensure the safety of students.
Son Loc Secondary School currently has 540 students with a total of 14 classes and 30 staff, employees and teachers. Despite the hardships and difficulties, the opening ceremony of the new school year at Son Loc Secondary School was still very complete and meaningful for the teachers and students of this school.
