Lang Son creates maximum conditions for lychee export

The 2025 lychee crop is at its peak, with large volumes expected to be exported through Lang Son province’s border gates. Since the beginning of June, Lang Son authorities have been working closely together to develop flexible scenarios to facilitate the export of this typical agricultural product.

On the morning of June 3, in Lang Son city, leaders of the District Party Committee and People's Committee of Luc Ngan district, Bac Giang had a direct working session with the Management Board of Dong Dang-Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone and representatives of departments, branches and functional forces with the specific goal: connecting and promoting the export of lychee - the main specialty of Bac Giang province through border gates in Lang Son province.

In 2025, the lychee output of Luc Ngan district and Chu town is expected to reach about 108,000 tons, of which Luc Ngan district alone accounts for about 65,000 tons.

With strategic orientation, Bac Giang province strives to export 70% of total output, mainly to China - the market with the largest proportion of lychee consumption today.

Lychee is a commodity that requires quick customs clearance to ensure quality. Authorities at the province's border gates have made plans early on, giving top priority to customs clearance of this commodity.

Trucks carrying lychees began arriving at border gates in Lang Son province from the end of May.

According to Mr. Nong Quang Hung, Deputy Captain of Tan Thanh Customs, Customs Branch VI, as of June 4, 15 trucks carrying fabric had cleared customs, with a total output of 164 tons, equivalent to a value of 30,912 USD.

“It is predicted that the number of trucks will increase gradually in the coming days. Lychee is currently classified in the ‘green lane’ group – given priority for immediate customs clearance. This is an important policy to help avoid congestion, ensure quality and delivery progress,” Mr. Hung added.

Not only that, at the border gates, Lang Son province has planned to arrange a separate area for lychee transport vehicles with a capacity of up to 200 vehicles. Plant quarantine steps have also been shortened to the maximum, responding and processing documents in no more than 10 minutes. The plant quarantine team has been fully deployed, ready to receive, check documents, take samples and check right at the vehicle.

In Tan Thanh area, on May 28, an interdisciplinary meeting was held between the following forces: Plant Quarantine, Customs, Border Guard and Border Gate Management Center to specify the directive of the Department of Cultivation and Plant Protection ( Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ). This is a necessary preparation step to unify the quick processing procedure and ensure quality throughout the customs clearance process.

Mr. Trinh Van Phan, Deputy Head of Plant Quarantine Sub-Department VII, Head of Tan Thanh Plant Quarantine Station affirmed: “The consistent policy of the forces is to always create the most favorable conditions for enterprises exporting agricultural products, especially lychees, which have high export value. We prioritize quick resolution, avoiding congestion of goods, affecting product quality”.

Not stopping at quickly handling customs clearance, according to Mr. Hoang Khanh Duy, Deputy Head of the Management Board of Dong Dang-Lang Son Border Gate Economic Zone, localities and enterprises need to prioritize official exports, sign clear sales contracts, and strictly comply with regulations on traceability, food hygiene and safety, and codes of growing areas and packaging facilities.

Recently, Lang Son province has also proactively held talks with Chinese authorities to agree on plans to improve customs clearance capacity, ensuring that goods, especially fresh fruits such as lychees, are received smoothly, limiting risks regarding time and quality.
