According to the IQAir air quality index application, Hanoi is ranked as the most polluted city in the world with an air quality index (AQI value) at a high level that is not good for human health.

Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai An is consulting a patient.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai An, former Head of the Department of Pediatric Otolaryngology, Central Otolaryngology Hospital, currently the Professional Director of An Viet General Hospital, air pollution not only affects the lungs and respiratory system but can also damage many other organs of the body.

Especially in extremely hot weather, overuse of air conditioning combined with air pollution further affects people's health, especially young children and those with weak immune systems.

According to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai An, people who are susceptible to air pollution include the elderly, pregnant women, children, and people with weak immune systems.

With the current air pollution, when going out, you need to wear a mask to protect your body. However, you also need to choose the right type of mask and most masks can only reduce the amount of dirty air but cannot make the air absolutely clean.

Wearing a mask not only helps reduce inhalation of polluted air but also keeps cold, humid air from outside from rushing directly into the respiratory tract.

When going out, you should wear a mask, especially for children. When you return home, you should rinse your nose and throat with saline to clean your upper respiratory tract. For families, you can close the doors and turn on the air purifier at home to reduce pollution levels.

People also need a good diet to build up the body's resistance, prevent and destroy bacteria. With the current environment of heavy air pollution, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoai An also advises everyone to have regular health check-ups. Taking the initiative to have health check-ups is very necessary, especially in the current weather conditions.

When there are unusual signs of health, you need to see a doctor and get treatment early to avoid possible bad complications.
