
The conference was held to evaluate the implementation results of the Project on Building a pilot model for food management according to the safe food chain in 2024 and the coordination program between the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (now the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment ) with the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, between Ho Chi Minh City and Lam Dong province.
This is also an opportunity for businesses to exchange, discuss and propose useful solutions to bring safe agricultural products of Lam Dong province to more city consumers.

Lam Dong - Strategic partner in supplying safe agricultural products of Ho Chi Minh City
According to information from the Conference, Lam Dong is currently the province that supplies up to 90% of the total output of the vegetable, fruit and root chain and 6.97% of the total output of the pork chain for Ho Chi Minh City. This figure shows the role and position of Lam Dong in ensuring a stable and safe food supply for the city.

Speaking at the Conference, Ms. Pham Khanh Phong Lan, Director of the Department of Food Safety of Ho Chi Minh City, emphasized the importance of coordinating the management and connection of safe agricultural product consumption with 15 provinces and cities; in which, Lam Dong was chosen by Ho Chi Minh City as the first province to summarize the cooperation process due to the province's significant contributions to the supply of safe food for the city.

Accordingly, in 2024, Lam Dong province implemented the Project to build a pilot model for food management according to the safe food chain with 5 participating establishments, supplying vegetables, tubers, fruits and pork to the Ho Chi Minh City market. The average output reached more than 2,835 tons of vegetables, tubers, fruits/year and 1,330 tons of pork/year.
As of early July 2025, the number of establishments participating in the project has increased to 18, including 12 vegetable and fruit establishments and 6 pig farms. The total output of vegetables, tubers and fruits reached 19,888 tons/year, accounting for 88.93% of the total output of the chain, and 8,081 tons of pork/year, accounting for 6.97% of the total output of the pork chain.

Also at the Conference, Mr. Nguyen Hoang Phuc, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province, said that Lam Dong currently has 107,306 hectares of high-tech agricultural production with a variety of agricultural products, from vegetables, fruits, flowers, tea, coffee to durian, dragon fruit and seafood.
Agricultural land area is about 1,052,000 hectares, of which 107,306 hectares are for high-tech agricultural production.

The whole province currently has about 149,760 hectares certified for safe and sustainable production, of which 23,489 hectares of crops are certified for GAP and equivalent; 4,024 hectares of crops are certified for organic; 122,247 hectares of coffee are certified for UTZ, 4C...
The province also has 960 export growing area codes with a total area of 39,363.3 hectares and 33 packaging facility codes for key agricultural products.

Food safety and quality control for development
The leader of Lam Dong Department of Agriculture and Environment also emphasized that Lam Dong agricultural products in recent times have not only met domestic demand but also been exported to many demanding foreign markets such as Australia, New Zealand, China, the United States, the EU, Switzerland, South Korea and Japan.
In particular, the implementation of the Canadian-funded Food Safety for Development Project (SAFEGRO) has recently supported Lam Dong province in informing, disseminating, training, and promoting facilities producing quality, safe products; helping consumers identify quality, safe agricultural, forestry, and fishery products.

The quality of Lam Dong agricultural products is increasingly guaranteed when the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety has deployed the collection of 332 samples of vegetables, tubers, and fruits originating from Lam Dong province to test for pesticide residues. The test results showed that 331 samples were safe, only 1 sample was detected with pesticide residues exceeding the prescribed level.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Food Safety said that in the coming time, it will continue to coordinate with the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province to control the quality of agricultural products, creating conditions for Lam Dong products to be present and present more deeply and widely in the Ho Chi Minh City market.
