Recently, many cases have received fake messages from Vietcombank sending customers notification that they have bonus points and will expire after 24 hours, customers need to access the link as instructed to redeem gifts...
According to the Anti-Fraud Project expert, this is a trick to impersonate Vietcombank by using a sender name that is identical to the real name. Because the messaging system does not authenticate the sender's identity, the scam message can be mixed with the real Vietcombank message, making users easily confused and lose their vigilance.
This fake message often comes with a fake link like vietcombankd[.]cfd, enticing users to access and log in to "redeem rewards" or "verify information". When logging in, all information (account, OTP) will be stolen and money in the account can be withdrawn.
Therefore, experts recommend that people should remember: Only operate on the official app or the real website of the bank. Absolutely do not log in from strange links, even if the message in the thread seems "genuine". When in doubt, people should immediately call the hotline to verify.
Not only Vietcombank but any organization or bank can be impersonated, so people need to be careful with the messages they receive and remember the recommendations when participating in the online environment.
