"Green lungs" are being violated

Báo Tài nguyên Môi trườngBáo Tài nguyên Môi trường18/05/2023

Walking on many streets in Ha Dong district, Hanoi , it is not difficult to see many trees being used as poles to hang banners, advertisements... In some places, the "green lungs" are tightly wrapped by a system of flashing lights, even nailed to the trees to make hangers.

Some food courts and many restaurants place honeycomb coal stoves and industrial gas stoves right under the tree roots for cooking… Notably, in some places, trees are also killed by covering them with cement, pouring boiling water and chemicals into the tree roots, and cutting down the roots… This situation is quite common and occurs at all times of the year.

To raise public awareness in protecting trees and the environment, every year Ha Dong district has thoroughly grasped and encouraged wards to mobilize, propagate, and handle violations of environmental protection, hanging banners, flags... in violation of regulations, affecting the environment and urban civilization.

In addition, the Ha Dong district government also takes advantage of social networks, the wards set up chat groups on Zalo and Facebook applications to promptly discuss and resolve people's problems regarding urban order and environmental sanitation. Whenever there is a report from group members reflecting on environmental pollution and waste backlog, the district leaders direct the relevant agencies to coordinate with the wards to resolve the issue immediately.

A resident of Van Phuc ward said: We witnessed many campaigns and heard the ward loudspeakers and propaganda teams about maintaining security and order, protecting the environment, and preventing the hanging of banners, posters, and illegal advertising signs, but after only a few days, everything was back to normal.

In order to protect the landscape, urban civilization and maintain the "green lungs" of the city, in addition to handling violations, each citizen needs to have the responsibility to join hands in protecting trees, actively planting trees around their home, and at the same time seriously condemning acts of killing trees in public places and sidewalks.

Below are actual photos recorded by reporters on some streets of Ha Dong district, Hanoi:
