These days, if you have the opportunity to visit Hamlet 6, Khanh Hoa Commune, especially the Khmer Lon Hamlet, you will easily see the changes in the countryside, which was once considered the poor hamlet of the commune. The roads are spacious, four-wheel vehicles can circulate conveniently, new houses have sprung up to replace the old dilapidated houses, which are the clearest evidence of the improvement in the appearance of the countryside and the lives of the people, including the ethnic minorities.
Mr. Dao Tu, Khmer ethnic, Hamlet 6, excitedly said: “In recent years, the Party and the State have paid much attention to the Khmer ethnic people, especially investing in works serving the people's lives. Currently, there are enough electricity, roads, schools and stations; the road has been upgraded and widened from 2.5 m to 3.5 m, creating favorable conditions for people to travel conveniently, and the exchange and purchase of agricultural products made by the people is also easier, from which the people's lives are increasingly improved".
Hamlet 6, Khanh Hoa commune has 331 households, including 130 ethnic minority households, most of whom are Khmer. If in 2020, the hamlet had more than 40 poor households and more than 10 near-poor households, now there are only 14 poor households and 3 near-poor households. The good news is that everyone in the hamlet is enthusiastic about doing business and trying to improve their lives. In 2025, the hamlet strives to reduce the number of poor households by 10-12 and eliminate near-poor households.
Mr. Danh Hoai Riem, Head of Hamlet 6, Khanh Hoa Commune, said: “In recent years, thanks to the attention of the Party and the State, from supporting residential land, production land, housing, and then supporting access to preferential loans to develop family economy, especially supporting ways of doing business and investing for people to implement effective economic models, the lives of people in the hamlet have improved significantly. Currently, the number of poor households in the hamlet is interested in housing support according to the Project to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, so basically these households have a stable life and are determined to escape poverty. From there, the hamlet boldly registered with the commune to reduce the number of poor households in 2025 by 10-12 households, in order to contribute to the locality effectively implementing the program of building advanced new rural communes".
Similarly, the once poor countryside of Hamlet 6, Khanh Lam Commune has changed. The newly upgraded 3m wide concrete road helps people trade goods easily. Dilapidated, old houses have been replaced with new, spacious houses under the program to eliminate temporary and dilapidated houses, making the rural appearance here clearly brighter, and people's lives are increasingly improved.
The houses put into use will be an important motivation for the Khmer people in Hamlet 6, Khanh Lam Commune to stabilize their lives.
Mr. Tran Van Sy, Head of Hamlet 6, Khanh Lam Commune, said: “Thanks to the care and attention of the Party and the State, the lives of people in the hamlet have been increasingly improved. The hamlet currently has 505 households, including 205 Khmer households. Previously, the hamlet had 115 poor households, now there are only 78 poor households and 6 near-poor households. Of the current poor and near-poor households, the commune has considered providing housing support for 61 households, currently 54 households have completed house construction, this continues to be a condition and also a motivation for poor and near-poor households to strive to stabilize their lives in the coming time.”
In order to help ethnic minority people develop sustainably, in 2025, from the capital of the National Target Program on Socio-Economic Development of Ethnic Minority Areas, U Minh District will continue to support the construction of 164 houses for people in areas with a large ethnic minority population, with a total amount of 9 billion 840 million VND.
By the end of June, 100% of the houses will be completed, helping people stabilize their lives. At the same time, the district also invested in 8 rural bridges and roads, with a total investment of 5 billion 163 million VND, to help people travel easily, creating momentum for socio-economic development./.
