The 'race' for tickets to grade 10 public schools in Hanoi ended, many candidates and parents 'breathed a sigh of relief'

(PLVN) - At 10:00 a.m. on June 8, nearly 103,000 candidates in Hanoi completed the final exam of the entrance exam for non-specialized public grade 10 schools for the 2025-2026 school year. The drops of sweat and anxious eyes temporarily receded, giving way to relief evident on the faces of many students and parents - those who had just stepped out of one of the most difficult "races" in a student's life.

Many candidates are confident of getting high scores.

This morning - June 8, nearly 103,000 candidates in Hanoi took the Math exam, the final exam, concluding the non-specialized 10th grade high school entrance exam. The exam time is 120 minutes.

Previously, on the first day of the exam - June 7, 1 candidate violated the exam regulations, brought a phone into the exam room, was recorded and suspended from the exam. There were 12 candidates who needed assistance during the exam due to health problems.

At 10am, the drum signaled the end of the exam, and in front of the school gate, parents and volunteers clapped their hands. Many raised their phones to take pictures of the moment the school gate gradually opened, and many students walked out one by one with relieved faces after two days of “passing the gate of heaven”.

Smiling, Tran Khanh Linh (Yen Hoa Secondary School, Cau Giay District) shared: "I have done well in all subjects, with Math and English, I predict to get over 8 points. My wish is My Dinh High School (Nam Tu Liem District) and I think I will conquer this goal. I am very happy now, I will take time to rest to make up for the stressful exam preparation time recently".

Candidates were radiant after completing the exam well.

Also hoping to enter My Dinh High School, after completing the final stage of the stressful 10th grade entrance exam, Do Thuy Duong (Cau Dien Secondary School) was satisfied with her work and planned: "Today I will go home and have a deep sleep to regain my energy, then I will go back to my hometown and enjoy the summer vacation in the true sense."

"Today's Math test was a little more difficult than the sample test, I predict I will get 8 points. Right now I feel all the pressure has gone away, my wish is to pass the entrance exam to My Dinh High School or Xuan Phuong High School. With my ability, I think I will pass", said Minh Tien (Nguyen Binh Khiem High School, Cau Giay District).

Parents breathe a sigh of relief

With two children taking the 10th grade entrance exam for the 2025-2026 school year, the pressure on Ms. Quyen's family (living in Cau Giay) has doubled. She said: "One child in my family wants to go to My Dinh High School, and the other child wants to go to the History class at Nguyen Hue High School for the Gifted. While the children are studying and taking the exam, the whole family feels like they are sitting on fire, the children are under pressure, and the parents are also under pressure. We just hope that the exam time will end quickly so we can see our children and hear them talk about their exam. Today, one child has finished the exam, and the pressure has been greatly relieved."

For Ms. Doan Thi Kim Loan (parent of candidate Tran Khanh Linh, residing in Yen Hoa ward, Cau Giay district), after picking up her child from the exam room and hearing the news that her child did well on the exam, Ms. Loan burst into happiness: "Yesterday, my child did well on both subjects, so I was very happy. I hope that today my child will be confident enough to conquer the last subject. With Math, my child is also confident in getting a high score, so I am very reassured and happy. After today, the whole family will go to my parents' house to organize a party to celebrate my child's successful completion of the exam."

Mr. Nguyen Van Hung - a parent whose child took the exam at My Dinh High School confided: "My child has been studying for months now, almost without a day off. After the exam today, he said he did well, I was relieved. The whole family decided that after the exam, we would take him on a trip to relieve stress after a long time."

This year, the entire city of Hanoi has more than 103,000 candidates taking the 10th grade entrance exam for public high schools, about 4,411 exam rooms, 201 exam locations, 15,173 officials, teachers, employees, and police participating in the organization, and more than 2,000 officials and teachers participating in marking the exam. This is the first exam organized according to the 2018 generaleducation program with the orientation of assessing the capacity and qualities of learners.

One of the notable new points in this year's 10th grade entrance exam is the adjustment of the way the admission score is calculated. Instead of multiplying the coefficient by 2 for Math and Literature as in previous years; in 2025, the admission score will be the total score of 3 subjects (Math, Literature, Foreign Language), each subject is calculated on a 10-point scale and does not have a coefficient. This calculation method aims to ensure fairness between subjects and encourage students to study all subjects equally.

The formula for calculating the admission score (Score) for grade 10 of non-specialized public high schools in Hanoi in 2025 is as follows:

DXT = Math score + Literature score + Foreign language score + priority score (if any) + incentive score (if any).

According to the plan of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, from June 9 to June 22, the Examination Council will mark multiple-choice tests. From June 11 to June 22, the Council will mark essay tests.

From July 4 to July 6, the Department will announce the test scores of candidates on the Department's electronic information portal and the city's primary admission portal. Also during this period, the Department will announce the benchmark scores of schools.

From July 7 to July 9, schools will return application documents and admission exam results for grade 10 for the 2025-2026 school year to students.

Before July 10, schools will receive students' appeal applications, submit appeal applications and lists of students to the Department of Education and Training.

From July 10 to July 12, high schools, vocational education - continuing education centers, and vocational education institutions organize admission confirmation.

On July 17, the Department of Education and Training and specialized high schools and public high schools will meet to approve additional benchmark scores for public grade 10 (if any).

From July 19 to July 22, schools will organize admission confirmation and receive additional admission applications (if any).
