More than 51 million TV viewers watched the US presidential debate

That's about 30% lower than the 73 million people who watched the candidates' first debate in 2020 and one of the three lowest-rated presidential debates since 1976.

However, the actual viewership figure could be much higher, as the figures do not capture the full extent of online viewing, which has become more popular amid a sharp decline in traditional TV audiences.

As is known, Mr. Biden had a performance that was considered a "disaster", when he could not present his views coherently, even stumbling and fumbling, thereby completely losing to Mr. Trump in this debate.

CNN provided its production feed to other networks and digital broadcast services, asking them to use CNN in their program titles and keep the CNN logo on screen throughout the debate.

The debate ratings reflect viewers on 16 television networks, including CNN, Fox News and MSNBC. CNN said the “matchup” was the biggest debate ever on its websites, mobile apps and YouTube player.

The next debate between Mr. Biden and Mr. Trump is scheduled to take place on September 10, organized by the ABC News channel.
