Today, more than 1.15 million candidates started taking the 2025 High School Graduation Exam.

This morning, June 26, more than 1.15 million candidates nationwide will officially enter the 2025 High School Graduation Exam with the first test being Literature, lasting 120 minutes, in the form of an essay test.

Special exam

This is an extremely special and rare exam as it is the first exam to be organized according to the new 2018 generaleducation program and takes place in the context that the whole country is streamlining the apparatus and switching to a two-level local government from July 1.

The exam was held for the first time according to the 2018 general education program. This year's exam has many new points compared to previous years, from exam questions to number of subjects and exam time.

According to the quick report on the registration date for the 2025 High School Graduation Exam of the Ministry of Education and Training , the total number of candidates coming to register for the exam was 1,152,336/1,162,134 candidates registered for the exam, reaching a rate of 99.16%.

Of which, the number of candidates taking the exam according to the 2006 General Education Program was 22,140/24,951 candidates registered for the exam, reaching a rate of 88.73%; the number of candidates taking the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program was 1,130,196/1,137,183 candidates registered for the exam, reaching a rate of 99.39%.

Accordingly, the Literature exam will use materials outside of textbooks. For other subjects, the exam questions will be related to practical applications.

In this exam, candidates must take 4 subjects (including 2 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature + 2 elective subjects from the subjects studied in high school). The total number of subjects to be tested in this year's exam is 13 subjects and there are new subjects such as Information Technology, Economic and Legal Education, Agricultural Technology, Industrial Technology.

In previous years, students had to take 6 subjects (including 3 compulsory subjects: Math, Literature, English and choose 3 subjects from the Social Science or Natural Science group). Accordingly, the total number of subjects to be tested is 9 subjects.

This year's exam will last 1.5 days instead of 2 days like previous years.

However, since this is the first year of the exam under the new program, to ensure the rights of candidates who have studied under the old 2006 program, this year's exam will have two exam papers for two groups of candidates under two programs. Candidates studying the 2006 program will take the exam under the old exam regulations with 6 subjects. They will also be assigned their own exam locations by localities. According to statistics from the Ministry of Education and Training, there are nearly 25,000 candidates nationwide taking the 2006 program.

Faced with that situation, the Prime Minister has consecutively issued two telegrams to direct the Ministry of Education and Training, ministries, branches and especially the People's Committees of provinces and cities to prepare well for the 2025 graduation exam carefully and thoroughly, not to let the arrangement of local government organizations affect the exam.

The telegram clearly stated that the chairmen of the People's Committees of provinces and cities are fully responsible for organizing the exam in their localities with the motto: clear people, clear work, clear responsibilities, clear time, clear products and clear results; not leaving any content unchecked, inspected and supervised with the requirement to organize the exam safely, seriously, in accordance with regulations and create the most favorable conditions for candidates to participate in the exam.

The Party Committee of the Ministry of Education and Training has sent a document to provinces and cities to direct them to strengthen their responsibilities according to the Prime Minister's directives and telegrams, as well as the Ministry's requirements. The Ministry has also issued a series of documents guiding professional expertise.

In particular, Deputy Prime Minister Le Thanh Long directly led the Government's inspection delegation to inspect exam preparation work in a number of localities.

According to Deputy Minister of Education and Training Pham Ngoc Thuong, Head of the National Examination Organizing Committee, the Ministry of Education and Training sees that localities have been very proactive in organizing this exam. The Ministry has not yet received any feedback from localities about the difficulties.

Today, after the Literature exam in the morning, in the afternoon, students will take the Math exam in the form of a multiple-choice test, the exam time is 90 minutes./.
