The model of growing mulberry and raising silkworms has been developed by the people of Yang Reh commune for many years. By 2024, with the encouragement of the local government, the people had joined together to establish the Yang Reh Commune Mulberry and Raising Silkworms Professional Group, with 12 members.
After its establishment, the group was also supported by the Farmers' Association of Krong Bong district to borrow 100 million VND to help 4 members invest in production. The group also established a savings group (each member contributed 500,000 VND/quarter) to create capital for members to borrow and help each other in production.
Members of the professional group of mulberry growing and silkworm raising in Yang Reh commune (Krong Bong district) actively produce and increase income. |
Ms. Nguyen Van Ly, Head of the Yang Reh Commune Sericulture Professional Group, shared that on average, each member raises 1-3 boxes of silkworm seeds each batch, and only needs to take care of the silkworms for 15 days before they can be sold. Each box of silkworm seeds yields 50-60 kg of cocoons, with prices ranging from 180,000-200,000 VND/kg, bringing members a profit of 8-10 million VND/box.
Some members initially implemented the model with many confusions, but once they mastered the technique, growing mulberry and raising silkworms became easier and more leisurely.
The members are even more excited when the prices and outputs for the products are wide open, bringing stable monthly income. Along with that, production is also quite favorable when the locality has a place to buy cocoons and provide quality seeds, so the members of the group can concentrate on the input and output sources for the products.
It is worth mentioning that through the professional group model, people have gradually changed their production mindset. Previously, many households were afraid of investment, afraid of risks and followed old customs, but now households have learned together, shared experiences, and boldly applied techniques in production. Not only in Yang Reh commune, but also in many other communes such as Khue Ngoc Dien, Dang Kang, Cu Dram... have also built professional groups and associations based on the actual needs of farmers and promoted the strengths of the locality. Although the models are not large, each group and association has connected, helping people to link up in production, improving productivity and product quality.

Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Cu Drăm Commune Y Then Mkang said that in 2024, the locality supported the establishment of 3 professional pineapple growing associations. The groups were established based on the needs of the people and are operating effectively, bringing stable income to the members. On average, 1 hectare of pineapple yields 30 tons of fruit, with a profit of 100 million VND/ha. The members actively produce, are willing to share knowledge and techniques, and work together to find output for the products, gradually linking up in production. The commune government and local mass organizations also actively accompany and support market connections, stabilizing output for the products. The locality is making efforts to "nurture" professional groups to develop into sustainable cooperatives.
Over the past 5 years, the Farmers’ Association of Krong Bong district has supported and guided the establishment of 2 cooperatives, 11 cooperative groups, 3 professional farmer associations (including 48 members) and 10 professional farmer associations (including 64 members). With the support and guidance of local authorities, professional groups and associations have gradually become more organized and oriented in their development, helping farmers to switch from small-scale farming to group production, initially bringing practical results to their members.
According to Mr. Le Van Thuat, Chairman of the Farmers’ Association of Krong Bong district, professional groups and branches are an important initial step in developing the collective economy in the locality. Thanks to their flexible, voluntary nature and close connection with practical needs, many professional groups and branches are operating effectively, especially at a time when people are still hesitant about large cooperative models.
To accompany the people, the District Farmers' Association actively coordinates with the District Agricultural Extension Station and the Department of Agriculture and Environment to open training courses and seminars according to the needs of the people; support the orientation of production organization according to market needs...
At the same time, the Farmers' Association Fund has supported 149 members to borrow capital to implement 73 production and business projects, with a total capital of 3.8 billion VND. Projects prioritized for capital allocation are models that are highly appreciated for their prospects such as cattle breeding, silkworm farming, fruit tree planting, etc. and must be associated with the establishment of professional groups, branches, and cooperatives.
From there, it will support and motivate members to invest in production, strengthen linkages, and form concentrated production areas. When given due attention, with appropriate support policies and linked to practical needs, professional associations and groups will transform into strong cooperatives, promoting the development of the local collective economy.
