At nearly 11 p.m., authorities used a crane to bring a saw and cutting machine to the top floor of the 1-3-5 Dinh Tien Hoang Commercial Center ("Shark Jaw") to drill and cut concrete blocks.

Because the project is located near Hoan Kiem Lake and the core of the Old Quarter, all demolition activities are carried out carefully. The area is surrounded by an 8-meter high fence to prevent construction waste from falling into the environment.

Previously, at the end of May, after the relocation of shops from the 1st to 6th floors, Hoan Kiem district had barricaded the entire "Shark Jaw" building to prepare for the demolition process. The district has not yet given a timeline for when the site will be completed and returned.

After demolition, this building area will be used as underground space. Hanoi City will continue to study solutions to develop underground space in Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square; renovate the surrounding streets; and renovate the overall technical infrastructure to match the activities of Hoan Kiem Lake as a special national monument.

The "Shark Jaw" building is managed by the Hanoi Transport Corporation, built from 1991 to 1993, the front facing Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, the left facing Hoan Kiem Lake, the right facing Cau Go Street, the back is restaurants and cafes of households. The building is 6 floors high, each floor is more than 300 m2 wide, since being put into use until now, it has caused architectural controversy.
