The 4.0 industrial revolution is taking place strongly around the world and artificial intelligence (AI) is emerging as a key driving force, reshaping all aspects of economic and social life.

Realizing this great potential, Vietnam is taking solid steps to become a leading regional AI hub. In line with that aspiration, Google has implemented many initiatives and continued to expand its cooperation with the National Innovation Center (NIC), affirming its long-term commitment and strategic investment in Vietnam's technological future.

The event to announce initiatives to promote AI startups and popularize AI knowledge to the community (June 18) is a milestone that opens up new opportunities for the AI startup community and the country's digital workforce.

Specialized design

At the event, Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Chi Dung emphasized the strategic role of science, technology and innovation.

According to the Deputy Prime Minister , the Party and Government have identified science and technology, innovation and digital transformation as the shortest path, a vital factor for Vietnam to realize its aspiration for rapid, sustainable, inclusive and self-reliant development to successfully achieve the country's two 100-year goals. Science and technology and innovation are not only the driving force for economic growth, but also the inevitable path to building a prosperous Vietnam, increasing labor productivity, national competitiveness, protecting the environment, responding to climate change and improving the quality of people's lives.

"The strategic role of science and technology, innovation and digital transformation continues to be consistently identified and developed into a system of policies, orientations and viewpoints that are comprehensive and long-term in Resolution 57 of the Politburo on breakthroughs in the development of science and technology, innovation and national digital transformation and Resolution 68 of the Politburo on private economic development," said the Deputy Prime Minister.

In addition, the Deputy Prime Minister highly appreciated the meaningful cooperation between NIC and Google. He said that this cooperation contributes significantly to promoting Vietnam's startup and innovation ecosystem, especially in strategic technology areas such as artificial intelligence. This is also considered a practical action to concretize the policy and priority orientation for research, training, incubation and application of AI as stated in Resolution No. 57.

According to a Google representative, the 2025 cooperation program is expected to bring new breakthroughs with the introduction of two key initiatives, specifically designed to support and foster a new generation of Vietnamese AI startups.

Specifically, Google for Startups AI Bootcamp 2025 - a 3-day intensive training program, is expected to take place in Ho Chi Minh City. This program is designed specifically for 100 startups, equivalent to 200 developers. The core goal of the Bootcamp is to help developers master and effectively apply Google's latest and most advanced AI features. The special feature of the program is that developers will have a valuable opportunity to consult and learn directly from Google's team of leading experts and engineers. The training content will include many important and practical topics, from conceptualizing and implementing GenAI (generative AI) solutions, rapid prototyping techniques, developing MVP (minimum viable product), to necessary soft skills such as preparing and completing project content for successful fundraising.

Next is Google for Startups AI Solutions Lab 2025 - This is a challenging and exciting hackathon, taking place for 4 consecutive days at the Da Nang Artificial Intelligence and Circuit Design Research and Training Center (DSAC). With the participation of 50 talented startups, the competition aims to build innovative GenAI solutions to solve specific and urgent challenges in the locality. Participating teams will receive special support from DSAC, including free workspace for six months. Even more special, the 10 best teams will have a golden opportunity to introduce their products to prestigious representatives from the public and private sectors at Google Vietnam's biggest AI event of the year, scheduled to be held in September this year. This promises to be a great playground, where breakthrough ideas are introduced and connected with potential investment opportunities.

Previously, Google in Vietnam has made concrete contributions in promoting and enriching the country's innovation ecosystem. One of the highlights is the "Building the AI Future" initiative. Since 2022, this program has become a prestigious destination, attracting the participation of more than 500 Vietnamese startups. Diverse and practical activities, such as Startup Academy, Google for Startups Accelerator and Google Startup Masterclass have provided valuable knowledge, skills and resources for young founders.

Of these, nearly 100 Vietnamese startups have received maximum support in development with outstanding improvements in products and services. This achievement has spread and brought practical benefits to more than 300,000 customers nationwide. These comprehensive support initiatives act as a launching pad, promoting businesses to accelerate their development and contribute significantly to creating more new job opportunities. Specifically, more than 300 new jobs have been created when these startups successfully raised capital and expanded their team size, a positive signal in the context of Vietnam's competitive economy.

Promoting the workforce

Mr. Vu Quoc Huy, Director of NIC, said that the two sides have been implementing a number of programs to develop digital human resources and promote the innovation and startup ecosystem in Vietnam, revolving around three pillars of cooperation: Developing digital talent (Google Career Certificates), Supporting startups (Google for Startups) and the Google for Developers Program (Google for Developers).

Mr. Huy is optimistic about the future of the collaboration and said that the programs announced this time are a continuation of the shared commitment between the two parties: “Building on the successes achieved, we are aiming even higher with the systematic training and empowerment of the next generation of innovators who will play a pioneering role in the country's next wave of economic growth with the Google AI platform.”

Specifically, in parallel with supporting startups, Google and NIC pay special attention to building a strong digital workforce, ready for the future of artificial intelligence. With a strategic vision of “Creating Talent,” the cooperation between the two units focuses on systematically and strategically addressing the urgent needs of improving skills for the workforce. The goal is to equip Vietnamese workers with the necessary knowledge and skills to confidently enter and master the AI era that is developing at a stormy pace.

These efforts have yielded impressive results. To date, the joint initiative has successfully awarded 60,000 scholarships through the Google and NIC Digital Talent Development Program, thanks to a wide network of collaboration with more than 150 prestigious partners (leading universities and organizations with great social impact across the country).

Google Vietnam Managing Director Marc Woo stressed that the opportunity to develop an AI-led economy in Vietnam is huge. Artificial intelligence is forecast to bring economic benefits of up to VND1.89 quadrillion (equivalent to USD79.3 billion) by 2030, equivalent to nearly 12% of Vietnam's GDP. Vietnam is not only keeping up with the global AI trend but is also leading the way with the number of startups in this field increasing more than 4.5 times since 2021.

“In that context, Google is committed to accompanying Vietnam’s economic development. By strengthening our long-term strategic partnership with NIC, the AI Bootcamp 2025 and Solution Lab 2025 programs, along with the launch of our Vietnamese language Google AI Essentials course, will provide in-depth training opportunities and accelerate development, helping domestic startups scale up - contributing to making Vietnam a leading AI hub in the region,” said Mr. Marc Woo./.
