Summer-autumn rice planting: A day early, or a thing!

(Baohatinh.vn) - Ha Tinh is entering the peak season of summer-autumn rice cultivation. The whole province is concentrating, by June 15 at the latest, 100% of the summer-autumn rice area will be completed.

The weather has been constantly experiencing unusual phenomena, with thunderstorms and lightning causing the spring harvest and the start of the summer-autumn crop to be delayed.

According to experts, in recent years, the summer-autumn crop of 2025 is expected to face the most difficulties and challenges. Since the beginning of the crop, extreme weather has occurred continuously, with many thunderstorms, tornadoes, and lightning, affecting the spring rice harvest and the start of the summer-autumn crop.

In addition, in June and July, it is forecasted that there will be prolonged heat waves with high temperatures, seriously affecting the progress of sowing, growth and development of rice plants. Abnormal weather also increases the risk of pests such as brown planthoppers, leaf rollers, blast, silver leaf, etc. Especially storms and tropical depressions are expected to operate early, with a storm forecast to directly affect Ha Tinh , threatening the rice yield at the end of the season if not harvested in time.

Farmers are working hard every day to complete land preparation and sowing summer-autumn rice crops for 2025.

In addition, compared to previous years, the late harvest of the 2025 spring crop has increased the pressure on the summer-autumn crop planting schedule. Accordingly, instead of the deadline of June 10 as in previous years, this year, at least until June 15, some of the last areas can complete planting. And, the special context of the 2025 summer-autumn crop takes place during the time when the province is organizing the arrangement of administrative units and implementing the 2-level local government model. If we do not closely monitor from the beginning of the crop, production direction will inevitably be interrupted and inadequate...

All of this is like a "test" for the authorities and people across the province in the fierce battle to cope with weather developments, to take the initiative in production to have a safe, secure, and successful summer-autumn crop.

On June 3, 2025, the Provincial Party Standing Committee issued Directive No. 58-CT/TU on leadership and direction of summer-autumn crop production in 2025, demonstrating the province's close direction and determination for this year's summer-autumn crop. At the same time, it is also an urgent order of action for Party committees and authorities at all levels and farmers to proactively take action and be ready to face the difficulties and challenges of this special crop.

The Provincial Party Standing Committee requested the entire political system from the province to the grassroots to promote a high sense of responsibility, enhance the role of leaders, and focus on implementing key tasks. Party committees at all levels, authorities, the Fatherland Front, and socio-political organizations continue to thoroughly grasp and seriously implement Urgent Dispatch 3243-CD/TU. The Provincial People's Committee directed departments, branches, and localities to focus on strictly implementing the Resolutions of the Provincial People's Council related to agricultural and environmental development, especially Resolution No. 206/NQ-HDND dated December 13, 2024 and No. 233/NQ-HDND dated February 19, 2025.

In the urgent situation, the Provincial Party Committee also requested localities to speed up work in the fields; mobilize mechanical forces, machinery and equipment to "race" against the season, gaining the upper hand right from the beginning of the season.

At the same time, accelerate the process of land accumulation in accordance with the spirit of Resolution No. 06-NQ/TU dated November 18, 2021, associated with promoting the application of scientific and technological advances and digital transformation in agricultural production. Perfecting institutions and policies; reviewing legal documents and production support policies in accordance with the new organizational model, ensuring consistency and enforcement in the context of a two-level government.

Up to this point, the whole province has cultivated 15,000 hectares (reaching about 30% of the plan).

Immediately afterwards, the Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee also issued a document requesting departments, branches and localities to strictly implement Directive No. 58-CT/TU dated June 3, 2025 of the Provincial Party Committee. In particular, from the district to the commune level, assign tasks and specific areas, ensuring proactiveness, continuity, smoothness and no interruption in the context of the province's implementation and after the reorganization of the local government apparatus at 2 levels. Focus on directing the simultaneous planting of summer-autumn rice, prioritizing the use of short-term varieties; strive to end the planting season before June 15, 2025 to achieve the planned area target, ensuring harvest before September 10, 2025.

It can be said that the timely, close involvement, drastic and synchronous direction of Party committees and authorities at all levels is the first victory of the 2025 summer-autumn crop taking place in an urgent context, facing difficulties. This is also the "key" for the crop to ensure progress, timeliness and efficiency in the fields.

For the specialized sector, the Department of Agriculture and Environment is also working closely with local authorities and irrigation companies to closely follow the progress, implement water supply plans, take water to manage the season, and plant seeds on time with the spirit of "1 day early, or 1 thing". Maximum priority is given to using short-term varieties, especially in localities located in low-lying areas, often flooded and with late planting progress, only using varieties with a growth period of 100 days.

Continue to promote propaganda to farmers, strictly follow the crop schedule, care process, fertilization, pest control to ensure good rice growth and development. Harvest early, ensure "green at home is better than ripe in the field".

Up to now, the whole province has planted 15,000 hectares (reaching about 30% of the plan); completed land preparation for 25,000 hectares (55% of the area). In urgent conditions, localities are focusing on directing the acceleration of planting progress, making the most of time, the sooner the better, by June 15 at the latest, 100% of the 2025 summer-autumn rice area will be sown and planted.

The summer-autumn crop is always a “race” – a race against natural disasters, against time and against the innovation of farmers’ thinking in the process of developing modern agriculture. When leaders stand side by side with the grassroots, when machines are ready to go to the fields, when farmers are supported by specific policies and actions, that is when Ha Tinh proves one thing: the bigger the challenge, the stronger the will, together with the province to achieve the growth target of over 8%.
