World oil prices
At 6:10 a.m. on June 23, the price of WTI oil was 75.53 USD/barrel, up 1.49 USD/barrel, while the price of US Brent oil was at 78.71 USD/barrel, up 1.44 USD/barrel.
Iran's parliament on June 22 passed a landmark resolution authorizing the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping route that carries nearly a fifth of the world's oil, "when necessary" in response to US airstrikes on a series of Iranian nuclear facilities on the evening of June 21.
Speaking before the parliament, Iranian lawmakers affirmed that closing Hormuz is an “act of sovereignty defense” and a “compulsory option if the US continues to escalate”. The resolution received almost absolute support from members, in the context of tensions between the two countries reaching a peak after the “Midnight Hammer” military operation launched by Washington.
The Strait of Hormuz – just 33km wide at its narrowest point – is considered the world’s energy chokepoint. Nearly 20 million barrels of oil a day, equivalent to 20% of global production, and liquefied natural gas from Gulf states such as Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Kuwait and Qatar all pass through this route to reach international markets.

A blockade, if implemented, would cause severe disruption, send oil prices soaring and particularly affect Eurasian economies that rely on imported oil.
If Iran were to close the strait, it would be the first time in history that it has made a formal move on a threat it made more than a decade ago. Tehran has repeatedly threatened to close Hormuz in response to international sanctions, but has never followed through.
The US government has warned that any action that disrupts freedom of navigation through the Strait of Hormuz would be considered a “serious act of aggression”.
Domestic gasoline prices
During the operating period on June 19, the price of E5 RON92 gasoline increased by VND1,169/liter to VND20,631/liter. The price of RON95 gasoline increased by VND1,277/liter, not higher than VND21,244/liter.
Prices of all types of oil also increased simultaneously. Specifically: Diesel oil price increased by 1,456 VND/liter, up to 19,156 VND/liter. Kerosene price increased by 1,412 VND/liter, not higher than 18,923 VND/liter and fuel oil price increased by 1,182 VND/kg, up to 17,643 VND/kg.
In this period, the regulatory agency continues not to set aside or use the gasoline price stabilization fund for all products.
Since the beginning of 2025, domestic gasoline prices have undergone 24 adjustment sessions, including 9 decrease sessions, 10 increase sessions and 5 opposite sessions.
