On the morning of September 6, the underground spillway leading to Mo Nang 2 village (Ia Pa commune, Gia Lai province) continued to be flooded 1.5m deep due to heavy rain that lasted from the night of September 5, completely isolating 341 households in the village. This is the second time in a week that this area has been cut off by floodwaters.

Heavy rain since the night of September 5th caused water from streams to flow down, rising quickly and strongly, carrying soil and rocks, flooding the entire underground spillway . The elderly could not go to the market, children could not go to school, and farmers had to return home helplessly.

Mr. Le Tien Manh, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ia Pa commune, was present at the scene early in the morning, directing the police force to block both ends of the tunnel, not allowing people to pass.

“We have asked the village to closely monitor the people’s lives. If there is a need for food, medicine or emergency care, the commune will organize supplies and send them immediately,” said Mr. Le Tien Manh.

At the overflow area, people gathered in small groups, no one spoke loudly, just quietly watched the flood water. A young woman holding a small child, standing on the bank, said as if to herself: "The water will probably recede this afternoon. A few days ago it flooded, then receded again."

Previously, on August 29, this culvert was also flooded, rocks and soil were washed away, causing the village to be isolated. After the water receded, the commune mobilized more than 50 people to level and reinforce the culvert to clear the route. But less than a week later, the flood returned, sweeping away all the efforts that had just been made.

According to the warning from the meteorological agency, in the past 6 hours, Gia Lai province has had moderate to very heavy rain, with the potential risk of flash floods , landslides and subsidence in many areas. Local authorities have issued warnings to people to absolutely not cross spillways, rivers and streams when flood waters rise, especially during the time of farming.
