On September 5, the People's Committee of Ia Dom Commune, Gia Lai Province, announced that it had recorded nine cases of children being poisoned after catching and eating toad meat. The children, all residing in Mook Trang Village, were aged between 10 and 14 and were students in the area.

According to initial information, on the afternoon of September 3, when the adults went to work in the fields, the group of students kidnapped them to cook and eat. By the evening of the same day, all 9 children showed symptoms of nausea, stomachache, difficulty breathing, numbness of the lips and tongue, and fatigue.

As soon as the incident was discovered, the Commune People's Committee coordinated with the police to take the children to the Commune Health Station for first aid, then transferred them to Gia Lai Children's Hospital for further treatment.

A representative of Gia Lai Children's Hospital said that thanks to timely emergency care, the children's health has stabilized, with no critical cases. The hospital has also organized direct communication with patients about the dangers of eating toad meat, especially the risk of poisoning from toxic parts such as the skin, liver, eggs and glands behind the ears.

Mr. Le Trong Phuc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Ia Dom commune, said that local people still lack understanding of the toxicity of toads, leading to subjectivity in processing and using them.

On the evening of September 4, the People's Committee of the commune coordinated with organizations to go to Mook Trang village to propagate, warn and mobilize people not to eat toad meat. At the same time, encourage those who have recently eaten toad to go to a medical facility for a health check.

The incident is a clear warning about the risk of food poisoning from natural sources without adequate knowledge. Local authorities are continuing to step up propaganda work, especially in schools and remote communities, to prevent similar incidents in the future.
