Yesterday, Robusta prices on the floor dropped sharply from 3,800-4,200 VND/kg, but domestic prices only dropped by 1,600 VND/kg. This shows that the domestic coffee market is still more stable.
In the first 5 months of 2025, Vietnam's coffee exports to the US reached 60,600 tons, up 11% over the same period. The reason is that businesses increased exports during the tax deferral period.
Despite growth, Vietnam's coffee market share in the US will only reach 7%, lower than the 10% level in 2024. Vietnam is still the third largest supplier to the US, but its geographical distance from Brazil may slow down exports.

The Trump administration is preparing to impose a 50% tariff on coffee imported from Brazil, which supplies 30% of the coffee consumed in the United States. If implemented, the tariff (in addition to the existing 10% tariff) would cause coffee prices to increase sharply, affecting roasters and consumers.
In addition to Brazil, the US has also announced new tariffs on coffee from Vietnam (accounting for 17% of global production), Colombia (8%), Ethiopia and Indonesia (6%). This makes alternative supplies difficult. According to US statistics, the price of roasted coffee increased by 12.7% and instant coffee increased by 16.3% compared to last year. Currently, each pound (0.45 kg) of ground coffee costs $8.13, up more than $1 in just half a year.
Experts predict a significant price increase in the weeks to months after the tariffs take effect, depending on how much inventory companies have. While roasters can find alternative sources, that may be difficult given that many countries are also subject to similar tariffs.
