Chinese President Xi Jinping met with private business leaders on February 17 and pledged not to change policies related to this important economic sector.
According to AP, Mr. Xi Jinping's statement was made in the context of Chinese government officials trying to promote economic growth.

Among the business representatives attending were Alibaba founder Jack Ma, battery developer CATL Chairman Zeng Yuqun, electric carmaker BYD Chairman Wang Chuanfu, Tencent CEO Pony Ma, Huawei CEO Ren Zhengfei and DeepSeek founder Liang Wenfeng.
During the meeting, President Xi Jinping stressed that the private sector has broad prospects and huge potential on a new journey in the new era. He called this a golden time for private enterprises and entrepreneurs to fully develop their capabilities, according to Xinhua.
Xi called for reaching consensus and strengthening trust to promote the healthy and high-quality development of the private sector. The leader said the Chinese party and state are committed to unswervingly strengthening and developing the public sector while encouraging, supporting and guiding the development of the private sector.

Xi Jinping stressed that the current difficulties and challenges facing the private sector can be overcome and called for confidence in the future. He also said the government will "resolutely protect the legitimate rights of private enterprises and entrepreneurs according to the law."
But the Chinese leader also affirmed: "Any illegal activities of enterprises cannot avoid investigation and punishment."
According to the Global Times, citing data from the China Market Regulation Administration, by the end of September 2024, the number of registered private enterprises nationwide had exceeded 55 million, of which private enterprises accounted for 92.3% of the total number of enterprises.
