Galliani could return to AC Milan

Adriano Galliani - who spent more than three decades with AC Milan - is in talks to return to his old club next season.

Adriano Galliani was once the big boss at AC Milan.

This sensational information was revealed by La Gazzetta dello Sport on the morning of August 6, in the context of many internal changes at the San Siro headquarters.

Galliani reportedly met with AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale through his RedBird Capital fund to discuss a possible return to the club’s executive structure. The meeting was reportedly “arranged” by Flavio Briatore, a close friend of Galliani who is also linked to RedBird through his role in the Alpine investment group in F1.

If the deal goes through, Galliani will return to a new, tailored role as strategic advisor, similar to the one currently held by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. Crucially, he will not replace anyone in the current structure. Paolo Scaroni will remain chairman, Giorgio Furlani will remain CEO, and ownership will be transferred to Cardinale through RedBird.

However, to be able to officially return, Galliani - currently the President of Monza Club - needs to complete the transfer process of this team. He must finalize the remaining agreements with the Beckett Layne Ventures (USA), the unit that just bought Monza, to become a free man in the executive market.

Galliani joined AC Milan in 1986 as the right-hand man of the late Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi. For more than 30 years, he was the chief architect of many resounding successes, helping the “Rossoneri” rise to become the number one force in Europe with historic contracts such as Marco van Basten, Shevchenko, Kaká, Ronaldinho and Ibrahimović.

AC Milan anh 1

AC Milan are trying to find themselves again.

After Milan were sold to Chinese investors in 2017, Galliani moved on to run Monza. However, his influence and connection with the red-black team never completely ended.

Not everyone at the club was in favour of Galliani's return. Some executives feared he might upset the established hierarchy. But for fans, it was a positive sign: a familiar icon returning to help the team regain its identity and status.

If all goes well, Adriano Galliani will make a sensational return - marking one of the most remarkable comebacks in Italian football in recent years. AC Milan are aiming for a renaissance, and they could do it with the return of one of the club's greatest figures.
