FIFA asks Messi to verify identity

Lionel Messi, Harry Kane and many other big stars must comply with a surprising FIFA regulation when taking to the field at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

FIFA's Article 24.7 states: "Before the start of the tournament, all players and officials on the final list must prove their identity by presenting a valid personal passport with photograph. Any player or official failing to present this document will not be allowed to take part in the tournament."

"We can't imagine an almost comical scene where Messi, the most famous and recognizable player in football history, had to approach FIFA officials and hand over his passport to confirm his identity before the match, but that's exactly what happened," wrote Sportbible .

The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup officially kicked off in the United States on June 15 with a new 32-team format. Saudi Pro League representative Al Ahly faced Messi’s Inter Miami in the opening match, which ended in a 0-0 draw at Hard Rock Stadium in Miami, Florida.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane led Bayern Munich's attack and destroyed Auckland City from New Zealand with a score of 10-0. At the same time, the reigning Champions League champion PSG easily crushed Atletico Madrid 4-0.

Paris Saint-Germain are currently considered the number one candidate to win the FIFA Club World Cup. Opta gives an 18.5% probability that the French team will lift the trophy.
