RT reported that German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on July 24 that Ukraine will soon be able to attack targets inside Russia, raising the prospect of Berlin supplying long-range weapons to Kiev - a move that Moscow warned could escalate the conflict.
Responding to Die Zeit, Mr. Wadephul did not specifically name these systems, but seemed to be referring to the Taurus missile, a long-range weapon capable of attacking targets up to 500 km away, even inside Russian territory.

"Ukraine will also have the means to strike back at Russian territory. However, we will not disclose which weapons systems we provide to Ukraine," the German foreign minister added.
Moscow has repeatedly warned that supplying the Taurus missiles would make Germany a direct party to the conflict. Russian officials have long criticized Western arms supplies to Ukraine, saying they prolong hostilities and risk leading to a wider confrontation.
Berlin has refused to supply the Taurus system to Kiev for months. Former German Chancellor Olaf Scholz repeatedly blocked the transfer, citing the risk of escalating tensions. His successor, Chancellor Friedrich Merz, said no decision had been made on the matter.
Since taking office in May, however, Mr Merz has taken a tough stance on Russia. Earlier this month, he declared that diplomatic options in the Ukraine conflict had been “exhausted” and reaffirmed his commitment to supplying Ukraine with weapons. In response, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov accused him of escalating tensions by abandoning diplomacy.
Meanwhile, German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius reaffirmed earlier this month that Berlin would not send Taurus missiles to Ukraine.
