Accordingly, Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee Tran Tri Quang requested the provincial authorities to deploy urgent measures to respond and overcome the consequences in order to prevent and minimize the damage caused by landslides. At the same time, continue to closely monitor the development of landslides and subsidence, organize emergency handling of seriously eroded and collapsed sections and affected neighboring areas, place warning signs, and delineate dangerous areas.
The Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee requested the relevant agencies to urgently consult with professional units and consultants to implement necessary measures to prevent landslides and subsidence while waiting for fundamental solutions to be implemented. At the same time, widely announce the landslide situation on mass media so that people know and proactively prevent it. Road vehicles are strictly prohibited from passing through the landslide area.
Previously, on August 7 and August 12, landslides and subsidence occurred at 4 points in the Thuong Thoi Tien embankment area (nearly 2,800m long) with a total length of about 350m, directly threatening the safety of natural disaster prevention works, technical infrastructure systems, production activities of enterprises and traffic of people.
Thuong Thoi Tien embankment is a part of the project "Management and mitigation of drought and flood risks in the Greater Mekong Subregion", more than 4km long, with a total cost of hundreds of billions of VND, completed in three phases from 2017 to 2019.
