The flow of tourists from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat is blocked at Bao Loc Pass due to continuous traffic jams.

Continuous and prolonged traffic jams on Bao Loc Pass have blocked the flow of tourists from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat in the early summer days of 2025.

On June 10, the Department of Construction of Lam Dong province said it had requested the investor and construction unit of Bao Loc 2 bridge to speed up the progress and temporarily stop construction on weekends to reduce congestion on National Highway 20 through Bao Loc pass.

Traffic jams have been occurring for the past few days, during the peak summer tourist season of 2025. This situation has caused the flow of tourists from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat to be blocked.

Tourist Tran Hoang Nam (30 years old, Tan Phu district, Ho Chi Minh City) said: "It took us 2 hours to get through the pass because of traffic jam. It was unimaginable. I think many tourists will cancel their plans to go to Da Lat for fear of traffic jams on the pass happening again."

The peak of the traffic jam was on the afternoon of June 8 when tourist convoys left Da Lat and returned to Ho Chi Minh City and the Southeast provinces, causing serious congestion on Bao Loc Pass. Thousands of vehicles lined up for nearly 10km on the pass and about 4km below the pass.

Madagui Traffic Police Station (Traffic Police Department of Lam Dong Province Police) said that currently Bao Loc 2 Bridge only allows one-way traffic at Km104+320 because it is being expanded, and congestion occurs when the number of vehicles increases on weekends.

A similar situation also occurred on June 6, when tourist buses from Ho Chi Minh City poured into Da Lat.

Traffic police have deployed many officers to directly regulate at both ends of the pass, prioritizing the downhill direction due to the higher number of returning vehicles. However, the pass is narrow and 50% blocked, making traffic extremely difficult.

Another reason for the increased traffic pressure on Bao Loc Pass is that National Highway 28B from Binh Thuan to Da Lat is also being upgraded. This causes vehicles to rush through National Highway 20 instead of taking the Ho Chi Minh City - Phan Thiet Expressway before entering National Highway 28B to Da Lat as before.

According to the Lam Dong Department of Construction, the Bao Loc 2 Bridge upgrade project is invested by Road Management Area IV and constructed by Sao Viet - Cau 11 Thang Long joint venture. The project started on November 11, 2024 and was expected to be completed on February 9, 2025, but had to be extended to July 10 due to design adjustments.
