The inspection delegation of the General Staff worked in An Giang

On September 17, an inspection delegation of the General Staff of the Vietnam People's Army, led by Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan, Director of the Militia and Self-Defense Department, inspected the work of militia and self-defense, national defense and security education in 2025 at the Military Command of An Giang province.

The inspection team thoroughly grasped the content of the working session.

At the meeting, the Military Command of An Giang province reported that An Giang province was merged from the two old provinces of Kien Giang and An Giang, a border, sea and island area in the southwest of the country, located in the Long Xuyen quadrangle, bordering the three provinces of Kampot, Takeo, and Kandal (Kingdom of Cambodia).

Party members in the provincial militia and self-defense force currently reach 25.09%. The entire province has 102 military cells, 100% of which have cell committees. 102 commanders have basic military qualifications as follows: 44 university degrees, 31 college degrees, 27 intermediate degrees; all have intermediate political theory qualifications.

An Giang is one of six localities selected by the Ministry of National Defense to implement phase 1 of the project to build a permanent militia fleet to participate in protecting sea and island sovereignty in the new situation.

Every year, the An Giang Provincial Military Command organizes on-land training; coordinates with the Naval Region 5 Command to train on-sea for the standing militia squadron, with generally good results.

Colonel Nguyen Van Nganh, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Commander of the An Giang Provincial Military Command, spoke at the meeting.

The National Defense and Security Education Council of An Giang province has paid close attention to and closely implemented the work of national defense and security education. During the year, it has assigned and organized training and updating of national defense and security knowledge for 73 classes with a total of 5,663 comrades.

The Standing Agency of the An Giang Provincial Council for National Defense and Security Education monitors, directs, and guides 124 political schools, universities, colleges, intermediate schools, and high schools to organize the teaching of national defense and security education for 126,651 students and pupils in accordance with regulations.

During the working session, Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan highly appreciated the results of the implementation of the militia and self-defense work, national defense and security education in 2025 of the An Giang Provincial Military Command. At the same time, he emphasized that An Giang province has an important position in terms of national defense and security, and requested the Provincial Military Command to continue to do a good job of directing and guiding the militia and self-defense force to be ready to fight to protect important holidays and commemorative events; review and perfect the organization and staffing of militia and self-defense units, military commands of agencies and organizations according to new guidelines.

Major General Nguyen Quoc Toan requested the An Giang Provincial Military Command to perform well the staff work on national defense and security education in accordance with the law; continue to direct the provincial armed forces agencies and units and coordinate with agencies and units to widely disseminate information on militia and self-defense work, national defense and security education, etc.
