Regarding the mass food poisoning incident in Vinh Phuc on May 14, the Food Safety Department ( Ministry of Health ) said that it had requested the Vinh Phuc Provincial Department of Health to urgently direct medical facilities with patients being treated to focus resources on actively treating patients, not allowing patients to have serious complications that affect their health and lives. In case of necessity, it is possible to request professional consultation support from higher levels.
A worker showed signs of food poisoning after a meal at the company and was hospitalized for treatment.
The Food Safety Department also requested to immediately suspend the operation of the collective kitchen of Shinwon Ebenezer Vietnam Co., Ltd., organize an investigation to determine the cause of the incident according to regulations, trace the origin of the food, take food samples and specimens for testing to find the cause; Detect and strictly handle violations of food safety regulations (if any) and publicize the results to promptly warn the community.
At the same time, strengthen inspection, supervision, and guidance for collective kitchens and food service establishments to ensure hygiene and food safety conditions, strictly implement the management of food ingredients, three-step food inspection, food sample storage, and hygiene in processing stages; Propagate andeducate people about food safety knowledge and measures to prevent food poisoning, in order to raise awareness, change behaviors and habits in choosing and using food to ensure safety, and not use food of unknown origin.
The Vinh Phuc Provincial Department of Health is also required to report implementation results to the Department of Food Safety as prescribed.
According to the report of Vinh Phuc Provincial Police, at noon on May 14, Shinwon Ebenezer Vietnam Co., Ltd. organized lunch for about 3,298 workers in 2 shifts (shift 1 at 11:30 with about 1,000 meals, shift 2 at 12:30 with about 2,000 meals).
Meals cooked by Shinwon Ebenezer Vietnam Co., Ltd. include: stir-fried chicken, broccoli, green bean soup, and pickles.
At around 2:00 p.m. the same day, 5 workers of the company showed signs of stomachache, nausea, and food poisoning. The company took these 5 workers to Lac Viet Vinh Yen Friendship Hospital for emergency treatment.
By about 5:00 p.m. the same day, 351 workers of the company with symptoms of abdominal pain and nausea were taken to: Provincial General Hospital (49 cases), Lac Viet Friendship Hospital (222 cases) and Vinh Yen City Medical Center (80 cases) and 60 cases are being monitored at the medical room of Shinwon Ebenezer Vietnam Co., Ltd.
