In Bloomberg 's Power On newsletter, analyst Mark Gurman said the 2026 iPhone lineup will shrink the Dynamic Island notch. By 2027, Apple is expected to launch a special iPhone model to celebrate its 20th anniversary.
This isn’t the first time rumors of a 20th anniversary iPhone have surfaced. On June 8, Gurman said the device would feature curved glass edges, ultra-thin bezels, and a notch-free display. The Liquid Glass interface on iOS 26 is the premise for this design.
“The 20th anniversary iPhone will expand on the glass phone idea, featuring curved glass all around the edges. Even the frame of the device will be very thin, with no notch. Internally, Apple has called the 2027 iPhone ‘Glasswing,’ referring to the butterfly with transparent wings,” Gurman emphasized.
In May, The Information reported that the 2026 iPhone Pro line would feature under-display Face ID. According to writer Wayne Ma, the product will only have a circular hole in the upper left corner for the selfie camera, meaning Dynamic Island will be eliminated. Meanwhile, Gurman said that the device will still have a notch, but a smaller one.
“From the front, the new line of devices won't look too different from recent models, but the changes to the back of the Pro line are noticeable.
Either way, they’re a stepping stone to next year’s innovations, with Apple shrinking the Dynamic Island, moving closer to a full-frontal display, and introducing a foldable phone,” Gurman writes.
This is part of Apple's iPhone redesign strategy. The plan starts this year with the super-thin iPhone 17 model (tentatively called iPhone 17 Air), alongside the iPhone 17 Pro with a completely new back and camera cluster.
While retaining the triangular lens arrangement, rumors suggest the camera cluster will be rectangular, spanning the entire width of the back. Components such as the LED flash, microphone, and LiDAR sensor have been moved to the right.
If the rumors are correct, this would be the biggest change to the camera design on the iPhone since the iPhone 11 Pro switched to a square camera cluster in 2019.
By 2027, Apple is looking to create an iPhone with a full screen, without any visible cutouts or notches. This means the selfie camera and Face ID will be under the screen, creating a truly “all-screen” iPhone.
