9X actor has new film competing for awards in the US

"Skin of Youth" will compete in the top category at the New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF).

Skin of Youth (Vietnamese title: Noisy Youth) is a co-production of producers from 4 countries: An Nam Productions (Vietnam), Akanga Film Asia (Singapore), Bitters End (Japan) and Mayfair Pictures (USA) will compete in the Uncaged Award category with 7 other Asian films, including representatives from Korea, China, Japan, Mongolia. This category is considered a symbol of daring spirit, innovation and belief in new cinematic voices from all over Asia.

Skin of Youth is set in modern Ho Chi Minh City, depicting a splendid but also fierce city, where young people struggle to survive, fight for their dreams and aspirations to live true to themselves.

The film was developed from the Next Master Support Program, within the framework of Talents Tokyo in 2020, by Vietnamese-American director Ash Mayfair (Nguyen Phuong Anh).

In the film, Vo Dien Gia Huy plays Nam, a boxer who participates in underground fights to make a living. Nam's life changes when he falls in love with San, a transgender dancer who dreams of having surgery to live completely as a woman. Nam's bloody fights are not only for survival but also to raise money to help San realize her dream.

Vo Dien Gia Huy made a strong impression with his powerful transformation, fully depicting the image of a young person struggling between the darkness of life and the fragile moments of love.

During his trip to the US, Vo Dien Gia Huy will interact with the press and audience at the film introduction on July 24. This is also considered the debut of Skin Of Youth in the North American market.

The 24th NYAFF runs until July 27 under the theme Cinema as Disruption, celebrating bold works that break stereotypes and prejudices. The event features over 100 films, with over 75 premieres, making it the largest film festival ever.

Vo Dien Gia Huy was born in 1996 in Tay Ninh , graduated from Ho Chi Minh City University of Theater and Cinema. He has participated in many major projects in both film and television: Dear Mom, I'm Going, Fanti, Soul Eater, Detective Kien, Wish We Could Fly Together, Devil's Restaurant and the upcoming Deathmatch in the Sky.
