Huawei Pura 80 Series Phones Equipped With Super Telephoto Camera, EMUI Operating System

The improvements of Huawei Pura 80 Series compared to the previous generation can be considered a new photography revolution, remarkable in both platform and hardware with super telephoto lens.

In the context of smartphone manufacturers seeking to redefine the capabilities of mobile photography, Huawei once again affirms its pioneering position with the Huawei Pura 80 Series - a flagship phone line that fully converges the elements: Technical breakthrough, high-end identity design and especially the camera system considered to be the most advanced on a mobile device today, which can be called the first phone equipped with "super tele".

Huawei Pura 80 Series costs about 39,000,000 VND if sold in the Vietnamese market.

Launched at the "Huawei Asia Pacific (APAC) Innovation Product Launch" event in Bangkok, the Huawei Pura 80 Series is not simply an upgrade from the Pura 70 Series, but a big step forward in the ambition to turn smartphones into truly professional photography tools.

However, this product line is not available in the Vietnamese market.

Iconic design

Huawei remains faithful to its minimalist, elegant and fashionable design philosophy. The Pura 80 Series retains the iconic diamond-shaped camera cluster that made a splash on the Pura 70 series, but all the attention is not on the appearance but on the improved configuration.

The Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is at the heart of this innovation. It is the world ’s first smartphone to feature a physically switchable dual telephoto lens system, giving users access to two levels of optical zoom (3.7x and 9.4x) with seamless detail, color, and depth of field.

Dual telephoto camera switch

This isn’t a gimmick – the physical dual-telephoto lens technology on the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra is a real leap forward in mobile photography. Instead of relying solely on software or a varifocal sensor, the Pura 80 Ultra integrates two optical lens structures in the same camera cluster, which can physically switch between the two focal lengths with near-absolute mechanical precision.

Thanks to the super-large 1/1.28-inch sensor, the system can maintain detail and color balance when switching between two zoom levels – something that traditional telephoto lens systems are nearly impossible to achieve, even on the most high-end flagship lines of competitors.

This is the solution Huawei spent years researching, combining precision optics, micro-mechanics and AI image processing. The camera cluster consists of 143 components, crafted through more than 150 assembly steps – a number nearly three times that of conventional periscope lenses.

Night Zoom and Ultra Lighting HDR: Capture beauty in the dark

Huawei doesn’t stop at physical zoom. On the Pura 80 Ultra, the night shooting experience is taken to a new level with Night Zoom – a feature that combines AI light processing algorithms, super-sensitive sensors, and advanced optical stabilization.

Even in extremely low light conditions, the camera can clearly reproduce even small details at a distance – from street lights in a dark alley, to human faces in backlit scenes.

In addition, Huawei's Ultra Lighting HDR technology has been greatly improved, providing a wider dynamic range, helping to retain details in both bright and dark areas. For those who love landscape photography, everyday photography or nighttime architectural photography, this is a powerful and useful tool.

Pro Version

Despite not having a dual-convertible telephoto lens system, the Huawei Pura 80 Pro is still a formidable competitor in the high-end segment. The device is equipped with a 1-inch main sensor - equivalent to many professional compact cameras today.

The tele macro camera on the Pura 80 Pro allows for detailed capture at very close range without distortion or loss of focus, while the Ultra Chroma camera is responsible for more faithful color reproduction, thanks to its wider light capture and deep learning color rendering algorithms.

Despite being a lower version, Pura 80 Pro still inherits the entire Huawei XMAGE image processing ecosystem - from the user interface to the post-processing algorithm set, ensuring every photo is of the highest quality without too much technical intervention.

XMAGE - The Core That Shapes Huawei's Photography Ecosystem

Huawei has moved away from relying on external optical partners like Leica, instead developing its own XMAGE platform – which is now the heart of the camera system on its high-end Pura and Mate series devices.

XMAGE is not just an image processing software, but a platform that includes hardware, software, AI algorithms, image design philosophy and user experience.

Through XMAGE, Huawei aims to turn the smartphone into a visual storytelling tool – not simply a photo for clarity, but a photo to convey emotion, to recreate the authenticity of the moment.

At the event, Huawei also held the XMAGE APAC exhibition, which brought together photos taken with Huawei devices from many countries. This is a step towards building a mobile photography community and inspiring creativity for users across the region.

AI helps perfect the professional photography experience

As a flagship device, the Huawei Pura 80 Ultra not only possesses a top-notch camera cluster, but also integrates a series of smart features to enhance the overall experience.

The upcoming AI Remove feature will allow users to remove unwanted objects or people from the frame, while naturally restoring the background – a capability that is only available in professional photo editing software.

Along with that, features such as AI Best Expression (selecting the best expressive moment in group photos), AI Messaging and AI Gesture Control help users easily interact with the device and optimize each frame without complicated manual operations.

Physically, Huawei also focused on durability. The Pura 80 Ultra's entire front and back glass is protected by second-generation Kunlun Crystal Armor Glass, which is 25 times more impact-resistant and 16 times more scratch-resistant than regular glass. This is an indispensable factor for a device aimed at users who love creating images, often traveling and working in harsh conditions.

Quick comparison with Pura 70 Series

While the Huawei Pura 70 Series has impressed with its Ultra Lighting camera and retractable lens design, the arrival of the Pura 80 represents a clear leap forward.

The most notable difference is the physically switchable dual telephoto lens system – a completely new feature not available on the Pura 70 Ultra. In addition, the image processing algorithm, HDR capabilities and AI post-processing have all been significantly refined and improved, helping the Pura 80 Series redefine the role of smartphones in professional photography.

The most special feature that excites the Vietnamese technology community is that Huawei Pura 80 Series runs EMUI operating system, can install Vietnamese language and Google applications, and can be used well in the Vietnamese market.

However, the conversion price is still quite high, up to 39,000,000 VND, which will be a relative obstacle for ordinary users. This is the direction that Huawei has been loyal to for the past few years, positioning itself on par with the flagship lines of other popular brands in the Vietnamese market.
