Help farmers escape poverty sustainably

Nearly 10 years ago, Mr. Le Tien Dung (Thanh Khe ward) struggled with low-income jobs. The turning point came when the local authorities lent him 2,000 square meters of land on Yen Khe 1 street, which was an area polluted by waste.

Thanks to the Farmers' Association's support of two loans totaling 80 million VND from the Farmers' Support Fund, he gradually expanded his flower, ornamental plant and agricultural production. During Tet, his income from flower growing is 100 - 150 million VND.

Many effective urban agricultural models have been supported by Farmers' Associations at all levels, contributing to increasing income and stabilizing life, typically the high-tech straw mushroom growing model of Mr. Dao Huy Tung (Cam Le ward). Previously, Mr. Tung faced many difficulties due to lack of capital, lack of land and unstable output due to lack of consumption market.

When participating in the association's activities, he was supported by the local government to borrow 700m² of land, access preferential capital from the Farmers' Support Fund and be connected to stable output products. Up to now, his model has been operating effectively, bringing in an income of about 30 million VND/month.

In 2024, the association at all levels established 23 cooperative groups, 50 professional farmer associations, 5 cooperatives and 24 professional branches; 2,142 farmer members were trained and fostered in their profession; 4,838 members were trained in science and technology transfer, accessing new technological advances in production.

The City-level Farmers Support Fund has now reached over VND47.5 billion, disbursing VND44.7 billion to 200 projects, helping over 1,300 households borrow capital to develop their economy. The majority of households borrow capital to implement projects on farming, livestock, production, and household business.

The representative of the City Farmers’ Association said that in recent times, the association has focused on vocational training, transferring scientific and technical advances, and supporting members in developing circular agriculture and adapting to climate change. At the same time, it has focused on connecting outputs and promoting products through traditional and electronic commercial channels to increase the value of agricultural products.

Along with that, training and capacity building for grassroots association officials are promoted, helping the association's activities become more effective and practical, becoming a reliable support for members.

The fulcrum of women entrepreneurs

Not only representing and taking care of the interests of female members, the Women's Union of Da Nang City is also a solid foundation to help many women boldly start their own businesses and do business. Recently, the association has effectively implemented the project "Supporting women to start a business" for the period 2017 - 2025 launched by the Prime Minister, helping many members realize their dream of becoming economic masters with their own abilities.

For Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Nguyet (Ngu Hanh Son ward), the motivation to start a business started from not letting homegrown ginger go to waste. In 2017, Ms. Nguyet planted ginger on an area of 100m2, but when the season came, the price of ginger was low and no one bought it. Thanks to a friend's suggestion on how to make traditional ginger tea, she researched and successfully tested it.

The support came to her from the companionship of the City Women's Union through the project "Supporting women to start a business". With the association's support in capital, guidance on product registration, training in management skills and digital transformation, she gradually professionalized the production process. Her ginger tea product under the Tam Nguyen brand was recognized as a 3-star OCOP in 2021. From a small kitchen, she expanded the workshop, brought products to e-commerce platforms and created jobs for many local women.

Meanwhile, Ms. Trinh Thi Hong (Lien Chieu Ward), Director of Minh Hong Biotechnology Joint Stock Company, not only develops a sustainable economy but also contributes to spreading the spirit of green entrepreneurship. In 2012, Ms. Hong researched and succeeded in utilizing organic waste such as vegetables, tubers, and fruits to produce safe and environmentally friendly dishwashing liquid, floor cleaner, shampoo, and hand sanitizer. With the support of the City Women's Union in connecting and promoting products, Ms. Hong gradually expanded the market and built her own brand.

Not only is she good at business, she also creates jobs for dozens of women in difficult circumstances, and teaches them how to produce detergents from discarded materials. As the President of the Danang Women Entrepreneurship Club, she actively shares her experiences and advises many women to confidently take the path of entrepreneurship.

According to the representative of the City Women's Union, implementing the project "Supporting women to start a business" in the period of 2017-2025, the union at all levels has promoted propaganda and coordinated with functional sectors to train and transfer science, technology and skills for women to start a business.

To date, 1,143 women have been supported to start businesses and start businesses; and 18 cooperatives and cooperatives managed by women have been established. From seemingly small ideas, thanks to the support of the Association, many women have confidently stepped out of their comfort zones and asserted themselves with promising business models.
