General Director of Vietnam Wafer Joint Stock Company Chau Hoang Long said that Vietnam has an increasingly important role in the global semiconductor supply chain and is on the journey to becoming a chip manufacturing center in the Asian region.
Meanwhile, Quang Tri is located on the Kon Tum continental platform - one of the three oldest platforms in Southeast Asia, which is home to abundant and high-quality natural quartz resources. "During our research, we saw that Quang Tri has great potential to develop high-tech manufacturing projects and semiconductor technology from the local white sand resources," said Mr. Long.
Accordingly, the enterprise proposed the project of Ultra-pure Quartz Materials Production Factory - Phase 1 of the Vietnam Wafer Semiconductor Materials Production Complex project in Quan Ngang Industrial Park, Gio Quang Commune, Gio Linh District. The project's goal is to produce ultra-pure quartz for semiconductor, optical and photovoltaic applications. The total investment capital of the project is 96.2 billion VND.
The investor plans to complete the construction of the factory and install and test the ultra-pure quartz production line in March 2026; start production and supply products to the market in April 2026.
For the semiconductor material production complex project, continuing phase 1, the enterprise proposed: phase 2 to invest in a quartz crucible factory with a capacity of 13,000 quartz crucibles/year; phase 3 to invest in a crystalline silicon pillar factory with a capacity of 30 tons/month; phase 4 to build a semiconductor wafer factory with a capacity of 50,000 panels/month; phase 5 to build a super-pure carbon factory with a capacity of 1,000 tons/year; phase 6 to invest in a chip testing research and development center.
Concluding the meeting, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien said that Quang Tri currently has quality sand reserves, on which the orientation is to form a semiconductor technology manufacturing industry. Through the investor's proposal report, the province's spirit is to support the project. Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Le Duc Tien directed departments and branches to support investors in speeding up investment procedures to implement the project.
According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment, Quang Tri has 5 white sand mines (including 2 white sand mines, 3 quartz sand mines after titanium mining) approved for planning with a total area of over 1,075 hectares, total resources of 56.4 million tons. Currently, 4/5 mines according to the planning have been granted mining licenses by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment .
