First time using non-textbook materials – opening up depth of association
This year's Literature exam consists of two parts: Reading comprehension (4 points) and writing (6 points), both revolving around the work "Different skies" - a work of great humanism by Nguyen Minh Chau. This is the first year that the High School Graduation Exam uses entirely non-textbook materials, following the spirit of program innovation and testing students' actual abilities, in line with the orientation of the 2018 General Education Program.
In the reading comprehension section, candidates are asked about the role of details and rhetorical devices in the passage, requiring the learner’s ability to observe, identify and explain. However, it is the writing section where candidates demonstrate their depth of thinking and ability to apply knowledge into practice.
The literary essay question requires an analysis of the character Le's feelings for Son, a relationship that contains sympathy, sharing and evokes humanity. Meanwhile, the social essay question suggests a very topical issue: "The sky of any homeland is the sky of the Fatherland". Set at a time when the country is promoting the process of streamlining the apparatus, arranging and merging administrative units, the exam question touches the emotions of the candidates.
Anywhere in the country is home - Affirmation of the young generation
At the exam site of A Phu Ly High School, candidate Ha Minh Hieu shared: I have never encountered this passage in my studies, but that is what makes the exam interesting and challenging. I have had very real associations about the responsibility of each individual towards the fate of the homeland and country, especially in the context of the country changing every day.
Similarly, candidate Tran Anh Tuyet, from A Phu Ly High School, said: The essay topic was very good. The guiding point throughout is love and responsibility for the country's renovation. No matter where we are in this country, we are still proud to be Vietnamese, still living under the sky of the Fatherland.
Meanwhile, at the exam site of Phu Ly C High School, Nguyen Gia Bao admitted that he was a bit confused when he first read the topic: At first, I was quite worried because the essay topic was quite new. But then I calmed down, thought about the surrounding reality, about the event of merging provinces, and then led the essay around the topic of homeland, the responsibility of the young generation to the country. I believe that this topic will help us become more mature, not only in terms of academics but also in terms of civic responsibility.
Gia Bao predicts that with this year's exam, students with average academic performance will score about 5 points or more; those with good abilities and who invest in studying for university admission can score 7 points or more. This is an exam that can create clear differentiation, but is fair - Bao commented.
From classroom to real life – real emotional connection
It is worth noting that this year's Literature exam has profound ideas, not in the textbook but close to life, such as the excerpt from "Different Skies", creating a breakthrough. The exam not only tests knowledge but also helps candidates live truthfully with their thoughts, from personal feelings to civic awareness.
From the perspective of Literature teachers, this year’s Literature exam is not only valuable in terms of content but also creates a “common sky” for students. The exam contributes to forming humanistic thinking and emotional attachment to the place where they live, thereby enhancing the responsibility of the young generation towards the country’s major issues.
This morning, the whole province had more than 10,350 candidates registered to take the Literature exam. Of which, more than 150 candidates took the exam according to the 2006 General Education Program; more than 10,199 candidates took the exam according to the 2018 General Education Program. In the afternoon, candidates will continue to take the Math exam for 90 minutes.
