Calling on other countries to fully respect Vietnam's sovereignty

(Dan Tri) - Vietnam is ready to work with all parties to resolve maritime disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, especially the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).
At the regular press conference of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the afternoon of November 21, Spokesperson Pham Thu Hang answered questions about the recent signing of the Law on Maritime Zones and the Law on Seas of Archipelagos by the President of the Philippines; and China's announcement of the standard names of part of the islands and coral reefs, including 64 structures in the East Sea. According to Ms. Hang, Vietnam has full legal basis and historical evidence affirming its sovereignty over the Hoang Sa and Truong Sa archipelagos in accordance with international law, as well as its sovereignty, sovereign rights and jurisdiction over maritime zones established in accordance with the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The spokesperson said that Vietnam respects the rights of coastal states to promulgate domestic laws and regulations related to the sea, in accordance with UNCLOS 1982. Vietnam requests other countries to fully respect Vietnam's sovereignty over the Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos and Vietnam's rights to its maritime zones established in accordance with UNCLOS 1982, the spokesperson said. "Vietnam resolutely and persistently implements measures in accordance with international law, including UNCLOS 1982, to exercise sovereignty over Vietnam's Truong Sa and Hoang Sa archipelagos; sovereignty, sovereign rights, jurisdiction and legitimate interests over its maritime zones," Ms. Hang affirmed. The spokesperson also said that Vietnam is ready to work with parties to resolve disputes by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, especially UNCLOS 1982.
