De Jong will continue to stay with Barcelona after this season.

Sharing with VZ channel, the Dutch midfielder said: "I think I will renew with Barca. I can't be 100% sure, but if everything goes smoothly, it will be done. My intention is to renew this summer, but let's wait and see what happens. This is a negotiation process, it's impossible to say when it will be finished. The important thing is that both sides want it, and I believe we will reach an agreement."

De Jong joined Barcelona from Ajax in 2019 for a fee of €75m, after a season in which he was named the best midfielder in the Champions League - helping Ajax eliminate Juventus and Real Madrid to reach the semi-finals.

During the pandemic, he agreed to extend his contract and accept a deferment of part of his income, thereby becoming the highest-paid player in the current squad. Since then, rumors about Barca wanting to push De Jong away to reduce the salary fund have continuously appeared.

In 2022, it seemed that De Jong would leave when Barcelona accepted an offer from Manchester United, but he decided to stay. Last season, the midfielder No. 21 had his most impressive performance since joining the "Blaugrana", contributing greatly to the team winning the domestic treble despite having to take a long break due to an ankle injury.

Returning from injury at a crucial time of the season, De Jong regained his starting spot from Marc Casado and partnered Pedri in midfield. After the renewals of Pedri and Lamine Yamal, keeping De Jong was considered a top priority.

This season, Barcelona won the domestic treble, but were still eliminated in the Champions League semi-finals by Inter Milan, who then lost 0-5 to PSG in the final.
