On September 14, Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council Dmitry Medvedev announced that the country would not use nuclear weapons to respond to enemy attacks because Russia clearly understands the danger and irreversibility of such a conflict and Moscow is currently showing patience, but that patience "may run out".

Mr. Medvedev stressed that no one really needs a nuclear conflict because "this is a very bad story with a very difficult ending" and that is why so far the decision to use nuclear weapons (non-strategic or even strategic) has not been made by Moscow.

The Russian politician stressed that Moscow was showing patience because "a nuclear response is an extremely difficult decision with irreversible consequences", and affirmed that "any patience will eventually run out".

Mr. Medvedev drew attention to the fact that there are formal preconditions for Russia to use nuclear weapons, which are well understood by the entire international community and are consistent with the country's nuclear deterrence doctrine.

In particular, the Deputy Chairman of the Security Council of the Russian Federation also included the attack of the Ukrainian armed forces in Kursk province in such events.

According to the official, moderate Western analysts who believe that Russia is unlikely to respond in this way, although it remains a possibility, would be right, and Moscow's response could also include new means of delivery for non-nuclear equipment.
