Pedal boating on Xuan Huong Lake resumes after nearly 1 year of suspension

The People's Committee of Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat agreed with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to allow the pedal boat service on Xuan Huong Lake to resume after nearly 1 year of suspension.

On August 19, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Hau, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Xuan Huong Ward - Da Lat, said that in response to the actual demand of tourists during the summer and in preparation for welcoming tourists on the upcoming National Day holiday of September 2, the People's Committee of Xuan Huong Ward agreed with the Department of Agriculture and Environment to allow the duck pedal boat service on Xuan Huong Lake to resume operations while waiting for bidding procedures.

Tourists can now enjoy pedal boats on Xuan Huong Lake after the service was allowed to resume in mid-August.

Previously, the management of Xuan Huong Lake's water surface belonged to the Center for Investment Management and Exploitation of Irrigation Works in Da Lat (under the People's Committee of the old Da Lat City), but from July 1, when implementing a two-level government, this unit was transferred to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Lam Dong province.

As Thanh Nien reported, over the past years, on the surface of Xuan Huong Lake, there have been 3 organizations and individuals operating duck pedal boats within the 38-hectare surface area of the lake, including: Lam Dong Tourism Joint Stock Company Branch (Thuy Ta Restaurant); Da Lat Urban Services Joint Stock Company and Nguyen Tran Anh Duy business household with a total of 95 pedal boats and 3 rescue canoes. This activity has always ensured the safety of tourists, irrigation works, and the surrounding environment.

Tourists coming to Da Lat often choose to experience duck pedaling and sightseeing at Xuan Huong Lake.

However, from October 2024, the business of pedal boat services was suspended because according to the provisions of the 2017 Law on Water Resources, Decree 67/2018/ND-CP dated May 14, 2018 of the Government detailing a number of articles of the Law on Water Resources, the units exploiting this service must carry out bidding documents and apply for operating licenses at the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (old). However, due to the merger of the two levels of government, the bidding and licensing procedures were delayed.

The activity of pedaling a duck boat to sightsee and relax on Xuan Huong Lake, a symbol of Da Lat tourism, has existed for over 30 years and is popular with tourists.
