Prioritize your favorite major
This year’s university entrance exam has many changes, including the removal of the early admission method. Candidates can register their university and college admission wishes online on the Ministry of Education and Training ’s system from July 16 to 5 p.m. on July 28.
According to MSc. Dam Minh Anh, Deputy Head of Training Department, University of Education (University of Danang), the new point of this year's university admission regulations stipulates that the threshold score must be converted to ensure input quality and admission scores between admission methods, so candidates only register for admission on the system of the Ministry of Education and Training.
In which, the 2 main information is choosing a university and choosing a major without having to choose an admission method or combination. The software will base on the order of wishes and the highest results of the candidates in the combinations and methods to consider admission.
“The most basic principle of university admissions that has not changed over the years is to prioritize the order of wishes. That means candidates should put their favorite and desired major in the highest wish (first wish) and gradually reduce the priority level. They should have backup wishes with the expected standard score being 3-4 points lower than their current score and candidates should register for many wishes to ensure they can be admitted,” suggested Master Dam Minh Anh.
Sharing the same view, Associate Professor, Dr. Doan Ngoc Phi Anh, Vice Principal of the University of Economics (University of Danang) said that the admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training this year no longer consider early admission, all admission methods will be considered in the same round and apply the conversion score scale, not dividing the quota for each admission method as before.
Therefore, it is difficult to compare the admission scores of each method as in previous years. Candidates only need to consider which school their scores ensure the quality of the input, then they can register for admission. The most favorite major should be chosen as the first choice and then arrange the order for the next choices.
Should register many admission wishes
According to Dr. Vo Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of Duy Tan University, the score distribution of the 11 subjects in this year's high school graduation exam is highly differentiated and accurately reflects the quality of the exam.

With that score range, the top universities and admission scores for “hot” majors will not change much. However, for mid- and lower-ranked universities, the admission scores are expected to be lower than in 2024.
Dr. Vo Thanh Hai analyzed that in 2024, universities will allocate quotas for different admission methods, but this year all admission methods must be converted to one scale and there will be only one general admission round, no early admission will be applied.
With the score distribution of the subjects like this year, the top schools have stable or slightly reduced admission scores because the test scores are well differentiated. The middle and lower schools are expected to have scores 1-1.5 points lower than the top schools.
In the condition that the admission methods take place at the same time, with this score range, the admission scores of the same major at the schools will not differ much. Therefore, candidates should register at least 4 wishes to not lose the opportunity to be admitted.
Similarly, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hong Hai, Vice Principal of the University of Technology (University of Danang) noted that this year some universities use many combinations for admission, including very new combinations.
For combinations with Math as a common subject, candidates need to consider and carefully analyze the score distribution of the remaining subjects in the combination such as Economics - Law, Technology - Industry because the average score of these subjects is quite high.
According to the university and college admission regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training, candidates do not need to worry about which admission method to prioritize but can make the most of the admission methods they have.
All methods are applied by the admission system once. Universities will convert to a common scale. Therefore, according to Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Hong Hai, candidates only need to check how many methods can be used to meet the requirements and arrange the order of priority wishes for choosing majors and schools.
