U Minh commune was established on the basis of merging Khanh Hoa, Khanh Tien communes and part of Khanh Thuan and Khanh Lam communes. With the expansion of development space , U Minh has become a locality with a strategic location along the West coast, located on the connecting axis of Ca Mau and An Giang . This is an area rich in natural resources with ecological rice-shrimp production models, cajuput forests combined with protective forests, coastal aquatic resources and many estuaries such as Huong Mai, Tieu Dua, Lung Ranh, creating favorable conditions for the development of marine economy and ecotourism.
In the 2020 - 2025 term, the Party Committee, government, army and people of U Minh commune have strived to comprehensively implement goals and tasks, achieving positive results. In particular, the economy has grown quite well; culture and society continue to progress; comprehensive education quality has been improved; national target programs on new rural construction and sustainable poverty reduction have achieved practical results; the rate of poor and near-poor households has decreased sharply; the material, cultural and spiritual life of the people has been improved.
The Congress also set out 15 targets, 5 key tasks and 3 breakthroughs in the new term. The focus is on increasing the average income per capita in the area by 70% by 2030; the poverty rate according to multidimensional standards by 2030 <0.15%; striving to have 100% of rural traffic routes concreted by 2030. At the same time, focus on building a team of cadres with strong will, daring to think, daring to do, daring to take responsibility, daring to innovate, daring to make breakthroughs for the common good, promoting the development of forest economy and the application of science, technology, digital transformation; ensuring national defense and security; mobilizing and effectively using resources, building U Minh commune to develop rapidly, sustainably, with aspirations to rise up in the new era.
The Executive Committee of the U Minh Commune Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term was introduced to the congress, consisting of 27 comrades. The Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee appointed comrade Le Hong Thinh to hold the position of Secretary of the U Minh Commune Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term. The congress also announced the decision to appoint a delegation to attend the 17th Ca Mau Provincial Party Congress, consisting of 5 official delegates and 1 alternate delegate.
Speaking at the congress, comrade Le Minh Y, member of the Provincial Party Standing Committee, Deputy Head of the Provincial Party Organizing Committee emphasized: the issue is how to grasp, exploit and promote the best potentials, opportunities and advantages for U Minh to develop quickly and sustainably. In which, the focus is on forest economy, organic agricultural economy, marine economy, eco-tourism economy. Promoting the development of digital economy, green economy, circular economy, cooperative economy, private economy in all fields such as forestry - agriculture - fishery, trade, services, tourism belong to the potential and strengths of the commune; promote and take advantage of many investment resources to build and develop synchronous infrastructure, creating a smooth and interconnected traffic network".
