The Principal of the School of Medicine is Associate Professor, Dr. Phung Nguyen The Nguyen. The Vice Principals are Associate Professor, Dr. Huynh Nghia and Dr. Tran Cong Thang.

Dr. Tran Thuy Khanh Linh was appointed as Principal of the School of Nursing and Medical Technology. Vice Principal is Dr. Nguyen Thi Nhan.

Speaking at the appointment ceremony of the Principal of the School of Nursing - Medical Technology, Prof. Dr. Tran Diep Tuan, Party Secretary and Chairman of the School Council, congratulated the faculty on its remarkable growth, marked by the new position and mission of a member school.

He emphasized that improving the quality of the practice place is a top priority, because this is where students' abilities are directly assessed. The school needs to select existing theories, develop practical and useful research directions for the community. At the same time, strongly promote the connection between theory and practice in serving the community.

Prof. Dr. Tran Diep Tuan also emphasized that governance plays a fundamental role and needs to be comprehensively reviewed according to inspection standards, with the spirit of: "Promoting good things, improving bad things".

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ngo Quoc Dat, Principal of the school, said: "The school continues to take ensuringeducational quality as the guiding principle for all activities."

He noted that transforming teaching and management thinking is a key factor in the upcoming autonomy period. At the same time, expanding international training programs for both students and trainees will be an important strategy to help the school reach the level of integration.

In early June, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy established three affiliated schools including the School of Medicine, the School of Pharmacy, and the School of Nursing - Medical Technology.

In addition to the three newly established schools, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy currently has four faculties: Faculty of Dentistry, Faculty of Public Health , Faculty of Traditional Medicine, and Faculty of Basic Sciences.

The school also has the University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital, Ho Chi Minh City (3 campuses) with 11 functional departments, 7 centers and 4 functional units.

The school aims to develop into a leading university in Vietnam and among the top 100 universities in Asia in the field of health sciences .

Although named Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy, UMP is a public university under the Ministry of Health, not a university in the broad sense of the term.

Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy was established on the basis of merging three schools: Saigon University of Medicine, Saigon University of Pharmacy, Saigon University of Dentistry, according to Decision 426/TTg dated October 27, 1976 of the Prime Minister.

In 2003, Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy was renamed Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy according to Decision 2223/QD-BYT dated June 18, 2003 of the Minister of Health.

However, according to current regulations, the governance model of Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy is a university and requires a name change.

At the workshop to collect opinions on the policy for developing the draft Law on Higher Education (amended) held on May 15, Principal Ngo Quoc Dat also raised difficulties in this matter.

The establishment of three "subsidiary" schools on the basis of reorganizing the school's faculties will also create a premise for the school to convert its governance model from "university" to "university" according to the law.
