On the full moon day of the seventh lunar month this year, many vegetarian food production and processing establishments have accelerated production to meet market demand. The shopping atmosphere at markets and supermarkets has become more bustling.
The full moon market in July is bustling, the demand for goods increases. |
Prices increase slightly, goods are abundant
On the days approaching the full moon, the shopping atmosphere at markets and supermarkets becomes more vibrant, with a variety of goods on display and stable prices, especially green vegetables, fresh flowers and fruits. In addition to familiar flowers used for decoration such as yellow chrysanthemums, gladiolus, and gerberas, fruits with beautiful shapes and bright colors such as green-skinned grapefruit, red apples, mangoes, custard apples, tangerines, etc. are also in high demand.
Currently, the prices of vegetables, fruits, and stews have increased by 5-10% compared to normal days, but goods are still abundant, with no price hikes. Ready-made vegetarian products are also stable, giving consumers many options.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ton - a trader at Vinh Long market (Long Chau ward): "The purchasing power of vegetables has increased slightly, it is predicted that on the full moon day, the price of vegetables will increase by 5,000-10,000 VND/kg. This year, the full moon falls on the weekend, so customers buy more. However, due to the erratic weather, vegetables are easily spoiled, so I still consider not importing too much goods."
Specifically, the price of squash is 15,000 VND/kg; cabbage is 15,000 VND/kg; okra is 18,000 VND/kg; squash is 20,000 VND/kg; cucumber is 20,000 VND/kg; bitter melon is 20,000 VND/kg; watercress is 25,000 VND/kg; leafy vegetables are 35,000 VND/kg... straw mushrooms alone are 100,000-150,000 VND/kg, an increase of 20,000-50,000 VND/kg compared to normal days.
Fruit prices also increased by 5,000-10,000 VND/kg. Of which, longan with cowhide is 25,000 VND/kg; dragon fruit is 25,000-30,000 VND/kg; grapefruit is 35,000-40,000 VND/kg; green-skin grapefruit is 45,000-50,000 VND/kg; Hoa Loc mango is 45,000 VND/kg; Thai rambutan is 45,000 VND/kg; tangerine is 40,000-50,000 VND/kg; pear is 60,000 VND/kg; apple is 90,000 VND/kg; grape is 70,000-120,000 VND/kg...
Ms. Le Hong Ngoc, a vendor at Cua Market (Phuoc Hau Ward), said: “Purchasing power has increased since September 2nd. This is a big full moon day, so customers buy more fruit offerings than usual. I display the goods in an eye-catching manner, with a variety of types, including imported fruits with clear labels so that customers can choose with confidence.”
The price of cut flowers on the days approaching the full moon has started to increase due to increased input costs, currently 5,000-10,000 VND/bunch higher than usual. Specifically, copper coins are 5,000-7,000 VND/flower; apricot chrysanthemums are 30,000 VND/bunch; net chrysanthemums are 35,000 VND/bunch; diamond chrysanthemums are 40,000 VND/bunch; lilies are 150,000-160,000 VND/bunch... According to many traders, although purchasing power has not increased dramatically, the demand for flowers for the holidays is still stable. However, if prices continue to climb, sellers will have difficulty managing because customers tend to consider carefully before buying.
Vegetarian products increase orders
Ms. Nguyen Thi Truc Linh - Director of Thuan Duyen Food Company Limited (Song Phu commune), shared: "The company currently has 17 products including taro chao, coconut chao, ready-made chao, fatty chao, vegetarian satay, garlic chili vinegar sugar, chili sesame sauce... This Vu Lan holiday season, to keep up with orders, the company hired more than 10 regular workers and started working overtime 2 months ago.
Currently, orders have tripled compared to normal days, and both factories are operating at full capacity. Although input material prices have increased by 10-20% due to the new import policy, the company is still trying to keep prices stable to share the difficulties with consumers.
Not only working overtime, the company also stepped up marketing activities. Product promotion vehicles have visited many local markets and supermarkets, giving customers peace of mind when choosing safe, palatable vegetarian food, ready to serve the full moon worship season.
At My Hoa Tofu Skin Village (Cai Von Ward), the atmosphere is equally bustling. Inside the workshop, people quickly scoop up batches of golden bean curd, others meticulously arrange each piece of tofu skin, and others carefully stick labels on the products…
Mr. Dinh Cong Hoang - Head of the My Hoa Tofu Cooperative said: "The 15th day of the 7th lunar month is the biggest worshiping occasion of the year, so orders have increased by 10-20%. Since the beginning of the month, the average productivity of the cooperative has reached about 3 tons/day, creating jobs for more than 100 workers from cooking beans, scooping, drying, packaging... Diverse products include tofu sheets, dried stems, young stems, bean brains, buffalo tongues, and anchovies. However, the price of soybeans and charcoal have both increased by more than 10%, causing profits to decrease. We are considering long-term cooperation to maintain production, both preserving the traditional profession and meeting consumer demand."
A variety of fruits, fresh flowers, and vegetarian dishes for the 7th lunar month offering. |
Many people also go to the market early to prepare for the holiday season. Ms. My Duyen (Phuoc Hau ward) shared: “I am afraid that the price of goods will increase as the full moon approaches, so I prepare fruits and flowers for offerings in the middle of the week. To have a vegetarian offering tray with enough dishes and safety for the whole family, I often choose unprocessed vegetarian foods with labels and full expiration dates.”
According to the recommendations of the functional sector, the high demand for shopping during the full moon festival easily leads to the emergence of fake and poor quality goods. Consumers need to choose products with clear origins, full packaging information, not to buy cheap floating goods, to avoid the risk of affecting health. Along with that, small traders and businesses are encouraged to maintain quality, maintain reputation, contributing to stabilizing the market during Vu Lan festival.
