Shelter for orphans

Recently, the Women's Union of Dien Khanh commune has connected and mobilized benefactors and units to sponsor 9 orphans in the commune. Every year, the godmothers support the children with cash, tuition, school supplies, books, clothes, etc., ranging from 2 million to 6 million VND/child. Since childhood, Nguyen Vu Anh Binh (born in 2018, Phu An Nam 5 village) lost his father and lived with his grandparents; his grandparents are near-poor. Sympathizing with his situation, over the past 3 years, the Women's Union of the commune has connected with the commune police to sponsor and support him, with a monthly allowance of 500,000 VND and will continue to support him until he turns 18. It is known that his grandfather has just passed away, and the two of them are currently living together. The support and sharing of the godmothers and the association's officials is a source of encouragement for the two grandmothers and grandchildren to try to overcome difficulties and rise up in life. Ms. Thai Thi Tuyet Le - President of the Women's Union of Dien Khanh commune said that in addition to the "Godmother" program, every year, the association also implements the "Following children to school" program; mobilizes funds to award scholarships (average 500,000 VND/scholarship), give gifts, necessities... to support orphans and students in difficult circumstances.

In Cong Hai commune, the local Women's Union is also sponsoring 3 orphans. Every quarter, on holidays and Tet, the union mobilizes donors to donate books, clothes, necessities, cash, etc. to the children, worth from 200,000 VND/child or more. Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Y (born in 2013, Suoi Gieng village) and her younger brother are orphans, their mother left them, and currently live with their grandparents. Although they are old, every day, the grandparents save every penny from raising chickens, raising pigs, and selling noodles to have money to pay for the children's education. Understanding the difficult circumstances, the commune Women's Union has mobilized resources to support, helping the children have more conditions to improve their lives and study. Nhu Y shared: “Receiving the support and encouragement from the teachers, I am very happy and touched. I will strive to study well and be filial to my grandparents so as not to disappoint the love and trust of my mother and teachers. I dream of becoming a doctor in the future to be able to help patients in difficult circumstances and provide free medical treatment to the poor.”

Positive results

It is known that from 2022 to now, the whole province has 23 children orphaned by Covid-19 and more than 1,000 children orphaned by other causes supported by godmothers with a total amount of more than 40 billion VND. For the program to operate long-term and effectively, the associations at all levels implement the motto "a little bit makes a lot", actively mobilizing many organizations, individuals, and philanthropists to contribute resources; each orphan is supported by each mother from 200,000 to 300,000 VND/month until they turn 18 years old. This method both reduces the financial burden on mothers and ensures that children have a regular source of funding to maintain their studies. In addition to monthly support, associations at all levels and mothers also organize many other meaningful activities such as: Supporting contributions when children go to school; giving school supplies, clothes, food... on the occasion of holidays, Tet, and the beginning of the new school year. In addition, godmothers also spend time accompanying the children in their studies, teaching them basic knowledge and skills; sharing, confiding, and encouraging them to succeed in life.
