On the afternoon of June 30, at the Presidential Palace, President Vo Van Thuong received President of the Swiss National Council (President of the House of Representatives) Martin Candinas and a high-ranking delegation of the Swiss House of Representatives who are on an official visit to Vietnam.

At the reception, President Vo Van Thuong hoped that Switzerland would cooperate with Vietnam in many fields, and affirmed that Vietnam always creates the most favorable conditions for foreign investors, including Switzerland.

Also attending were Party Central Committee member and Chairman of the Office of the President Le Khanh Hai.

At the reception, President Vo Van Thuong was delighted to welcome President of the Swiss National Council Martin Candinas and the high-ranking delegation of the Swiss House of Representatives who are on an official visit to Vietnam and hoped that the visit would contribute significantly to strengthening cooperation between Vietnam and Switzerland in the coming time.

Informing that he met Swiss President Alain Berset last May at the coronation of the British King, through the Speaker of the House of Representatives, President Vo Van Thuong respectfully sent his regards and best wishes to the President.

Affirming that Vietnam's foreign policy and viewpoint are independence, self-reliance, peace , friendship, cooperation and development, multilateralization and diversification, President Vo Van Thuong emphasized: Vietnam highly values the relationship and cooperation with Switzerland and wishes to further strengthen cooperation in all fields.

Expressing his honor to visit Vietnam for the first time, President of the Swiss House of Representatives Martin Candinas sent his thanks and expressed his joy at the solemn and thoughtful reception that senior Vietnamese leaders and President Vo Van Thuong personally gave to the delegation.

President of the Swiss House of Representatives Martin Candinas stated that Switzerland was one of the first countries in Western Europe to establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam and so far, the Vietnam-Switzerland relationship is developing well.

President of the Swiss House of Representatives Martin Candinas affirmed that he will continue to make efforts to promote cooperation between the two countries. The focus of Switzerland's foreign policy is always to consider Vietnam an important partner in the region and this visit of the Delegation continues to affirm and implement that policy.

Sharing his impressions of Vietnam's remarkable development and deep economic and political integration in recent years, the President of the Swiss House of Representatives was pleased that through this visit he would have more time to learn more about Vietnam's development and the cooperation between the two countries. During his stay in Vietnam, the delegation visited a number of Swiss enterprises operating here and these enterprises all expressed their satisfaction with the results and process in Vietnam.

At the reception, President Vo Van Thuong thanked Switzerland for continuing to provide ODA to Vietnam, which is very necessary support for Vietnam's development.

To further promote cooperation between the two countries in the coming time, President Vo Van Thuong suggested that both sides focus on expanding political and diplomatic relations, and care for, share and support each other in regional and world issues.

Stating that one of the focuses in the bilateral relationship is economic, trade and investment cooperation, the President said that this is an area in which both sides still have much room to continue developing in the coming time.

Believing that Switzerland is currently strong in many fields, such as finance, banking, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, etc., President Vo Van Thuong hopes that Switzerland will cooperate with Vietnam in these fields, and affirmed that Vietnam always creates the most favorable conditions for foreign investors, including Switzerland, to invest in Vietnam.

President of the Swiss National Council Martin Candinas expressed his interest in promoting the signing of the Free Trade Agreement between Vietnam and the European Free Trade Association (EFTA) and expressed his hope that by 2024, the two sides can successfully sign it, contributing to further developing economic, trade and investment cooperation.

President Vo Van Thuong suggested that, in addition to promoting cooperation in the above-mentioned fields, the two countries should continue to promote people-to-people exchange, which has not been strongly developed in the past and needs to be further developed in the coming time, contributing to creating a solid foundation for the relationship between the two countries...
